campervan field questions

This year me and my mates are doing the campervan fields (in East) for the first time. We plan to arrive early Tuesday evening, but was wondering on what basis (if any) the stewards allocate where to park vans/caravans. I would assume its first in, nearest the festival entrance gate, but can bet it probably won't work out quite so nicely...

Do any campervan field veterans have any experience of how allocations are done, and ideally how to bag a decent spot? Looking forward to new experience of the camper fields but would rather avoid massive walks to/from the gates.

Also, are the rumours of taking ages to get out of the camper fields on Monday true? Does it take any longer than the normal car parks?

Cheers, bring on the festi sun :)

Simon

We're also in campervan fields for the first time this year. From what i've read on here there doesn't seem to be much logic in the allocation of plots - in other words arriving early doesn't necessarily mean you'll be closer to the festival site.

However I don't know for sure so thought i'd bump this for you in the hope that someone else can help you out :)

Thanks for the info, kinda what I thought might happen tho it seems harsh to get there early and potentially end up with a worse spot than late arrivers, but I guess it won't make a huge amount of difference.

Just seen the thread about camperfields opening tues aft so will just see where we end up then!

You dont get a choice of where to park. The vans are directed to the spot you need to pitch at. If your 1st in, that can mean the furtherst pitch in that field from the entrance gate. They fill from the back to the front in my experience, ie 1st in is always furthest away from gate(hill of death camping anyway).

Slightly annoying when people in after you, get a closer pitch to the entrance, but hey-ho, it makes sence to fill from the back of the fields.

Late commers (really late) get the best spots. Think they run out of field space, and out of the blue, vans are pitched on the oposite side of the walkway with views of the whole site, on the edge of death hill. Not great for sleeping on a slope, but you are closer than everyone else to gate C.

We're arriving wednesday morning, hopefully.........if my van makes it...

For our last 3 visits we have arrived at 9.30am on the Wednesday and we have found that they fill the fields closest to the pedestrian gate first. We have always pitched up on the same field and Bizarrely within 25 meters of the same spot.

They tend not to use the really steep slopes and these tend to get used by the late arrivals, who I suspect know the field layout rather than directed by the stewards.

We arrived on Thursday last year and the fields closest to the gate were deffo already filled up.

We ended up quite far back but I got to be honest, van to Pyramid was about 20 min walking

comfortably so I don't really mind where I end up. Rather that than on the slope.

I remember thinking last year that it did not look to comfy, particularly if you do not have levelling

blocks.

    • Very different in terms of time of game,  yet remember how excited I was before the first game in Euro 2016 having grown up not sure I would ever see wales in an international tournament. That day scraped a win against Slovakia and was just happy to see wales score and win at a tournament, little did I know we would finish in the top 4. Hope Scottish fans get the same experience.
