Special birthday treat...

My boyfriend's mum and dad are coming to Glastonbury this year (not camping with us!) and it is his mum's birthday on the Sunday. Has anyone got any ideas of something special we could do for her on the last day? They were at the first Glastonbury in 1970 but haven't been back since the 80's. I haven't been before so all suggestions welcome - I imagine there'll be lots to chose from.

id suggest getting in contact with the eavisis how many punters were there in 1970 that would be there in 2010? im sure a little introduction on the pyramid stage by ME would go down a treat!

How cool is that? They'll have a great time.

Probably a lame idea, but you could try and contact one of the food vendors to see if they can make a cake? Would obviously require a hefty deposit, or full payment in advance, but it could work.

I'm sure there were a couple of lovely cake type vendors around.

The Glastonbury office (if not too busy) may be able to point you in the right direction ...

Thanks for the replies - I don't think I'd realised quite how unique it is that she was at the first ever festival too - I wonder how much the scale of it all now will blow her mind!

A mate today mentioned that they might but a Happy Birthday story in the Glasto newspaper which might be a good idea and I love the idea of getting her the the Pyramid stage (mental!) but think she might get a bit embarrassed - perhaps backstage passes or a backstage tour for her and her husband would be cool tho.

And I hadn't even thought about cake - what a good idea!

It would be great to hear any more thoughts, however simple or crazy they are...

Oh - and does anyone know who might be good to get in touch with a Glastonbury HQ if we decide to see if they can help out in any way.

I agree - e-mail the festival and at the very least some sort of photo should result. Love reading things like this - bet you'll find them giving it laldy and out-partying you!

You could always get word via the Eavis to a certain headliner on Sunday..

I don't want to play the "my dad's bigger than your dad" card but I've been going since 1970 (since 69 if you count the Shepton Mallet Festival as the precursor to Glasto) and I'm sure there will be quite a lot of other veterens there too so I'm not sure they will be unique enough to warrant special treatment. But it's worth a try.

Maybe we should organise a veteren's Dad's Army get together where we can all park our zimmer frames and sit round and complain that Glasto's not as good as it used to be in my day. Cigarettes were 1 and 9 for twenty and you could get pissed as a fart for 10 bob (50p to you young 'uns). Drugs ain't like they used to be and the music today - well you can't understand what they're singing about.

Happy birthday for that weekend ohmygod, I'm sure it'll be one to remember! I personally think that mr wonder should dedicate that special tune to all of you guys having b-days that weekend!

Grumpyhack, wow, I am impressed and although your comment might have been tongue in cheek I bet it would be great for them to bump into fellow old festival goers to remember the good old days! To be honest if you read my initial message I was never really looking for 'special treatment' just something special to do for her... I was thinking along the lines of a great massage or unique place to go for a few hours! We're definatly going to look into sorting a cake for her as someone else has suggested. As I said, this is my first Glastonbury (I'm suitably excited!) and I was really looking for tips from people who'd been before. As someone who knows the festival well it'd be great if you had any ideas.

Happy 40th, I had the same pleasure last year, unfortunately I turn 41 on the 25th this year.
