Ok. i don't know much about the the history of reading.

just i understand it origonally was a jazz event that then got overtaken by more mainstream music, like the who, and then following the 'mainstream altertive'( not the best way of putting it) from then on.

anyways

the origonal event first moved to reading festival in 1971? so surly its the 40th Anniversary next year?

ooh, 40th year; headline slots for Green Day and the Foo Fighters? two of the biggest bands that FR love. plus AC/DC? pretty heavy line up but it would suit me :P

40th year?

Headlines of the classics please. Time machine nessicarry but....

Friday - Jimi Hendrix

Saturday - Bloc Party (If they want to sell tickets to crappy indie shitzzz) or if they are wish - The Beetles

Sunday - Nirvana.

So FR, i give you the challenge of building a time machine within the next 9 months and sort that shit out.

Other bands i'd reconmend:

Specials (Original members)

Iron Maiden (Original members)

Skatalites

Madness

And..... well im slightly drunk atm and cant think of any more. But im sure if i were sober i could so i may edit it tomorrow.

Is this just going to turn into a dream (impossible) headliners thread?

If so then...

Joy Division

The Beatles

Nirvana

... would be ok

although there are several others that i'd happily swap around.

Being even possible due to members not being dead...

The White Stripes (subbed by The Strokes)

The Rolling Stones

The Smiths (as good as impossible, yet technically not)

Time-machine:

The Stone Roses (1989-era) - Friday

Nirvana (1992) - Saturday

Sonic Youth (1992) or Pixies (1991) - Sunday

Wouldn't put Nirvana on last because knowing Kurt, he would want to be before Sonic Youth and Pixies - his influences were always more important than the music he made, and even he'd say that... knowing "our Kurt".

Not sure how Stone Roses would translate to modern audiences, though.

Now:

Killing Joke (with special guest Dave Grohl) - Friday

Ministry or Nine Inch Nails - Saturday

Sonic Youth - Sunday

No Muse

No Metallica - I'll never forgive them for Some Kind of Monster and the last 20 years of pain they've given me with their intolerable music.

No System of a Down

No Foos

No Prodigy

No Arctic f**king Monkeys

If they repeat past headliners, it just goes to show they have run out of imagination.

TBH. i recon muse will headline enxt year 40th anerversery or not.

Metallica probbaly won't as they tend to play every 5or 6 years (2008,2003 & 1997 they;ve headlined)

Ratm i recon would be quite likly. with the massive christmas success and their amazong 2008 set its all possible

i think pink flloyd is a no, same with zeplin

Maiden quite likly, havent played in 5 years

foos and greenday been rumerd for last 2 years so yhr...
