Thursday 24th June - 10:30pm, The Stone Circle

Hey Everyone,

I'm determined to be part of the festival this year rather than just experience it like I have the previous four. I've come up with a small but satisfying and highly poignant plan:

I've bought 50 sky lanterns to set off at 10:30 pm on Thursday at the Stone Circle (before the festival gets really crazy). There should be a couple of friends with me so with the excess we plan to hand out to strangers, we'll try and orchestrate a simultaneous lighting and release of them.

If you want to get involved please please do, I think it could be a really special moment for everyone across the site. I can imagine from any point of the festival site over 50 of them just appearing, It'd make me stop, point and even cheer!

For those who are in a fortunate position to contribute financially so we can buy more, pm me (this isn't a con, I'd be happy to provide you with a receipt; cheeky request I know!)

What does everyone think of the idea, would you be interested in joining in with the release of the lanterns?

Hey,

I'm not doing this so it'd be a special moment for me, I'm doing so I can give something to people. It's the random things that you see which makes the unexpected special moments; however random things created by strangers for others are still planned.

This is all this is. Contributing to the magic for others.

Sky lanterns are banned at Glastonbury. If you're caught, you'll be in trouble.

You're in tent city in the middle of farm country in summer, do you think it's a good idea to have flying fires floating around?

We were sat at the Stone Circle last year ( Sunday night )and to my right saw people duck and run for cover.

A lantern was flying across the field about four foot about the ground at a right old pace from

the right of the field to the left.

We watched it as it headed into the trees !

I read a story somewhere that these lanterns have thin pieces of wire in there structure that of course eventually land in the field and the cows have been known to choke on them, not for me as good as they look if it is of detriment to the wildlife then this isnt a good idea surely.

They get released every Year so doubt this Year will be any different!

Oh, and Fires are also banned on the Pyramid Field so doubt we'll be seeing any of those this year.

A bit different when it's one or two random releases across the festival. Entirely different when it is a big release organised publicly on the interent.

I know they are banned, but in fact they are not dangerous at all. Of course if you not drunk and you know what you are doing.

Not dangerous? I have worked at some festivals when they have landed on a tent because of a gust of wind, and that was a release by "sober" folk.

Sorry mate, but with over 100,000 tents and the environmental hazard these things are, plue the rogue calls being made to emergency services who have to respond when these things get mistaken for ditress flares, think its a terrible idea.

Besides I would like to know the difference between being part of the festival and merely experiencing it, by just being there you will be part of it, you do not need silly gestures to ensure your participation. I certainly do not feel my Glasto experience deprived in any way by not letting off a sky lantern

Tons of lanterns go up in the Stone Circle.

The slight wind takes them over Pennards as many thousands of people are away from their tents in different parts of the site.

... then they start to drop.........
