stewarding

I too am stewarding this year for much the same reason as yourself.

If it all goes ok I think that this might be the way forward for me. Im not sure that I can cope with the ticket stress anymore and applying to be a steward was so easy!

Im working for SLS, so Ill see what its like. Getting paid too, which is not bad. What Im most looking forward to though, is the posiblilty of being able to drive to the campsite, pitch then go park - sounds like heaven to me!

Ive read good and bad reports, but I am optimistic.

I really like the idea of having a different perspective at Glastonbury too.

I too am stewarding for SLS, first year stewarding but I have voluntereed as a litter picker for Network recycling for 3 years before.

Working at Glasto is a totally different experience. You get to be a part of the festival in such as different way, helping to make it the greatest festival ever.

You get to meet loads of like minded people, camp in much nicer secure camping fields, get fed, showers (which is makes the whole thing worth while). And i'm getting paid this year too.

Litter picking is really hard work though, there are good points and bad. Working from 5am - 11am is tough, on your hands and knees picking up rubbish, not everyones idea of a good time. But you get to make wicked friends. I went by myself for 3 years and made some amazing friends.

Only hoping this year I don't miss out on seeing the bands I want as the line up is the best ever.

xxx :P

As I said Im looking forward to the new experience that I will have this year.

The whole SLS package seemed to good to be true, I cant beleive I hadnt thought of doing this before.

I sort of decided after last year that I might go to a couple of smaller festivals instead of Glasto this year, but as time went on I started really really regretting it - then I saw a link on facebook for stewards, sent my cheque off and now Im in. Thats what I found hard to beleive - that I could just send a cheque and that was it. After hours in the past in front of 2 pcs and 3 phones! I just hope it goes well as if it does, this is what Ill do.

Someone I know runs a chai tent there and offered me a job, but when I found out about SLS i decided to do that. 3x8hr shifts standing around will be far better than endless shifts in a bustling tent methinks.

Im really looking forward to being there on Tuesday night, I can imagine thats a nice feeling.

Also I have read that SLS are really sorted in the way the staff are treated. A tea and sweet van comes round during the shifts apparantly!!

Perhaps Ill meet you in the training brief on the tuesday then phillipamy?

Hi, I went with SLS last year. My only tip is to arrive before 5 ish on the Tuesday, because they get overloaded with everyone coming after work. Some people I know were queueing to register until about 2am.

The tea landrover on our night shift was nice, but for some reason came twice in the last 2 hours and not at all the rest of the time! :P

I've stewarded through Oxfam twice and the first year it was brilliant! Met so many people and had a great time. The shifts weren't too good the second time and it did put a dampner on the festival. I still had an amazing time but I was utterly shattered. I'd do it again though, especially if I'd missed out on a ticket.

I've also stewarded with Green Stewards at other events and they're a brilliant bunch, and you get paid for doing Glastonbury! x

    • If you didn't see melt banana at Apolo. Go see them at the festival. Insane.
    • Interesting, and thanks for coming back to give an update! I've seen that the second stage looks bigger than usual too, looks to be a Serious Stages - Stellar Stage from distance photos.    Seems like sizing wise stages have been scaled up somewhat this year.
    • I see its cancelled now but they did leave it really late to announce plus they are up against Kelburn Garden Party Festival not to far from the festival site.
    • Easily my favourite set of the day.
