I just got a ticket!

I would be very surprised if any tickets go back on sale until after April 5th. Thats the end of the TAX year. If they sell them before April 5th they have to pay the VAT this year. If they sell them after then they don't have to pay until next year.

Selling them before 5th April will lose M.E lots and lots of money in interest. Because of this my prediction is that there may well be a lot more tickets available in the re-sale than most people think.

Have they said exactly how many have already been sold ?

That's a very good point about tax year.

I just don't see why someone would lie! (I am quite naive however!!! :P )

Anyway not really fussed as to whether they are lying or not but my whole point was that tickets did go on sale outside the official dates last year.

Still curious as to how much success the text message system will have however. It's a good idea if it works!

It is INCOME TAX that has a year end of 05 April I know this as I work for HMRC. Not connected to VAT whatsoever. Income tax is what it says on the tin.... tax payable on income not Value Added Tax. VAT does not have a year end of 05 April.

It depends. There are legitimate accounting mechanisms for dealing with money spread like this. So it's not automatically true to say that all the income in FY2009 has to turn into a tax liability for the same year.

To be honest - and I know this will sound rude - I think you're out of your depth.

Sorry my bad. Not VAT. Income Tax then.

Same deal still applies though does'nt it. It is actually much more finacially advantageous to sell tickets after 5th April. He gets to keep all the money for a whole year before paying his taxes.

I got confused about the VAT because of an interview he gave when he said this:

And this year they've got an extra month to pay the balance.- up to the end of February 2010

"That's right. That gives them a bit longer to pay and it helps with the VAT for us, as it comes into a different quarter. So it makes it a bit easier for us as well, to be truthful."

Being a little pedantic as well as boring me thinks...

Look I am just saying it is better for the festival if tickets are bought after April. This makes sense because historically they have only been sold after this date. (it only changed due to 2008's slow ticket sales.)

They have not said how many have actually been sold as far as I am aware. Lots of people seem to think there will be very few tickets available in the re-sale, but I reckon there may well be plenty to get hold of. We may never know because as they hav'nt told us how many have already been sold so I take it we won't find out how many get sold after April.

I just hope I am right and everyone who needs tickets gets them.

The problem with these conspiracy theories is that they may lead some people to think they don't need to be on the ball to get a ticket.

This kind of thing happened back in October, with some posters (who had already got their *own* tickets), telling other people not to worry because it won't sell out in one day. A few hours later, it sold out, and there were (and are) quite a few people upset at not getting tickets.

The only sensible advice to anyone wanting tickets is to treat them like gold dust.

It will have nothing to do with it being the 5th of April - VAT is paid quarterly or monthly regardless of when the tax year ends.

It will only be income tax for individuals which will be effected by the 5th April tax year end, not a business. A business will pay corporation tax based on the profits made in their financial year, which can be any date within the year that the company has set to drawn their accounts up to, and it very unlikely to be 5th April.

So doubt very much the ticker release will have been planned around that date

That's another conspiracy theory.

I've never heard anything that suggests any of that is true - either from my own dealings with GFL, nor Neil's dealings with SeeTickets that he's discussed here.

    • Proper special gig tonight. They won't mean much to most people, but The Dogs D'Amour were one of the most significant bands of my youth.   Tyla, yer main man of said band, was playing in Birkenhead tonight. Not many there, but it was going fine. Then he decided he didn't like the smoke and the flashing lights so suggested moving the gig to the beer garden. Off we all went, and it was magical. Like having your favourite musician play in your garden. I absolutely loved it.   Before:     After:
