Where the hell has this rumour come from!

I wouldn't have thought it's feasable for them to play Download without a ton of extra euro dates to subsidise their production. (Unless they come over on EasyJet and do an acoustic show)

Don't get me wrong, I'd LOVE to hear EVH shredding Eruption around the Derbyshire countryside but can't see it.

Stranger things have happened though..

Apparently Van Halen are extremely expensive for a band who are not as popular on these shores as in the states. Andy Copping said a few months ago that he didn't feel they were popular enough over here to headline, and that they are too expensive to play a support slot.

I think it's incredibly unlikely that they would be booked after he's made comments like that. But this rumour is still persisting, so there must be something to it!

I'm no band manager/agent/booker/promoter etc but I think Van Halen are popular enough to fill all the arenas over here in the UK.

Therefore Van Halen could lower their fee for a Special Guests slot at Download in exchange for not being tied to an exclusive deal allowing them to play these dates alongside their appearance making it a profitable jaunt for the band.
