The Big Chill had quite a few comedians on last year, and was a great medium sized festival (40,000) with lots going on besides the bands. It's first weekend in August, and normally has beautiful weather.

So, for those of us unlucky enough not to get tickets, what alternative festivals would people recommend? I've only ever done Glastonbury! While seeing bands is lovely, I do like a wide range of stuff - especially seeing comedians, so I'm thinking maybe Latitude. Any good?

Was Bestival sponsored by Nestle in 2008? If so, they got terrible value for money because I didn't notice any of their branding.

To be honest, Bestival is completely different from Glastonbury. But it's a viable alternative to Glastonbury in that it has a definite vibe about it. It feels as if the punters are there to have fun, and it feels as if the organisers are doing it for love not for money.

Which is more than you can say for Reading, right?
