Arctic Monkeys new album is officially out today, just wondering what the overall reaction is? Have given it a few listens since it leaked and am very impressed, they seem to be getting better with every record.

The following also contains setlist discussion so i've put it in spoiler tags as some people will prefer the suprise.

Following their revelation that they are "done" with fake tales, mardy bum and teddy picker and these songs are retired, was wondering was people's reaction is to this. Whilst i can understand that they're trying to get away from the social commentary tags, seems a bit arsey to drop your hits in favour of playing nearly all the new record to a festival crowd (check out recent setlists from festivals).

Blimey, just had a look at their last few setlists on setlistfm, and there's going to be some very disappointed people if that's the sort of set they're going to play at Reading and Leeds. I'm surprised they haven't added I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor to the list of retired songs though. Looked bored shitless playing that when I saw them, and surely fits into the 'social commentary' category more than any of their others.

I was going to see them as ive seen Rise against several times, and atleast Arctic Monkeys do have some very good songs.

I think the fact that they dont play the songs people like may have changed my mind.

As for the new album, im not a big AM fan, but i always thought they had a decent sound (even though i firmly believe AT is a pretty bad lyricist). The new one to me though, just seems to be trying to be more "mature" by losing what "edge" they had over most other "indie" bands.

Been listening to it for a couple of weeks now and its definitley a grower, you gotta stick with it but if you do you do realise it is actually a very good effort and much respect for trying to do something a little bit different and not just do the same as the last two albums.

My Propeller & Potion Approaching are awesome tracks.

As someone who isnt a massive fan but is quite familiar with their first two albums, it looks like a good set to sit and the back with easy access to the bar. Unless you are right at the front for a setlist like their recent ones I can't see you having a lot of fun unless you are farmiliar with the new album

Just had a look at a couple of recent setlists and think there's far too much off the new album, as I've said, I like it, but I'd prefer a mix of all 3 albums.

It's been the kind of set I'd expect at one of their gigs, not a festival.

i'd e so dissapointed if they didn't play any of those songs. listening to the new album now so i doubt i'll have got into it enough in time for leaving early tomorrow morning. kinda wishing i'd listened to some rise against so i could see them instead :/ i have seen arctics before and they were good but it was 2 years ago now.

i think the AM intention was to release an album that wasn't going to appeal to many people and too have an album which isn't supposed to be played in huge arenas. I think they have done their job at that and should be commended for doing down a path that they have wanted to pave for themselves rather than let others decide for them.

i think it's a great album. 8/10.

    • Completed my 2026 survey. Put down Super Furry Animals as my most wanted for next year but suspect the moment has gone for that. Popped a big shopping list in the box for who else you would like to see. 🙂
    • Blink-182 / Avril Lavigne / Good Charlotte / Neck Deep    Lamb of God / Malevolence      System Of A Down / Five Finger Death Punch / Skindred / Godsmack   Motionless In White / Poppy      Deftones / Gojira / Knocked Loose / President    Sabaton / Amon Amarth
    • This Isaac wood news has dropped right out of left field. Great to hear he feels up to doing live stuff again    what will he play? Solo stuff , old BCNR stuff?    It’s only in November , it’s a bold booking to for someone who has previously had some struggles to come back and play a load of new stuff to crowds that big
    • Wow, Blink-182 back so soon. They’re the band they’ve never booked then. Great booking if they’ve got them.    Deftones, Papa Roach, Knocked Loose   Lamb of God   Blink-182, Avril Lavigne, Good Charlotte   Megadeth   Slipknot, Gojira, Motionless In White   All Time Low
