Well I didn't think it was possible for a line-up to be worse than 2007's pathetic representation of this festival but I have been proved wrong.

Seriously, when you read previous line-ups, especially the ones from the Temple Newsam days you'll see that Reading and Leeds this year is a disgrace to it's glorious past.

I would have thought 2007 would have been your thing - 2 great headliners.

I do think you are looking with rose tinted glasses at the lineups from that time - There was so much rubbish on the bill, personaly I think that was a terrible time for music and this is reflected in the dire Radio 1 stage and FR stage equivelant.

There is a much better quality of bands now on the smaller stages and bigger acts headlining.

WARNING - THE FOLLOWING POST CONTAINS NEGATIVITY. PLEASE LOOK AWAY IF YOU THINK LIFE IS NOTHING BUT RAINBOWS, SUNSHINE AND UNICORNS...

A festival like Reading, that prides itself (supposedly) on covering the whole spectrum of rock music, should not be dealing in repeat bookings. Download boxes itself in to the hard rock/metal scene - repeat bookings are pretty unavoidable.

Why not instead of ANOTHER band that sound like the same radio friendly pop rock nonsense, they throw in someone different - why not give Stone Gods (nothing like their previous band!) a chance, what about Black Stone Cherry - both bands went down a treat at IOW last year apparently so they're not just a "Download band".

I honestly don't get how they had the nerve to say they would justify putting up the ticket price and then give us all the average to shite bands from last year that no one in their right mind wanted back and a few equally average/shite bands to replace the good ones from last year

I'll stop there... to end on a positive note, here's a kitten.

RHCP and, of course, my beloved Pumpkins were the only two bands that I was really fussed about. One proved to be a dissapointment and while I enjoyed the other they could have had a much better setlist.

And let's have a look at the Main Stage line-ups for 1999-2002 (the Temple Newsam years) and pick out bands who I'd have definitely seen:

1999: Reef, Chemical Brothers, The Charlatans, Sebadoh, Pavement, The Divine Comedy, Fun Lovin' Criminals, Blur, Feeder, Silverchair, The Offspring, RHCP

2000: RATM, Super Furry Animals, Beck, Pulp, Limp Bizkit (they were my favourite band at the time! :) ), Foo Fighters, Primal Scream, Oasis

2001: SOAD, The Cult, QOTSA, Eminem, Run DMC, Eels, The Strokes, Iggy Pop, Green Day, Frank Black, Rancid, Feeder, Supergrass, Fun Lovin' Criminals, and I'd have topped my weekend off with this band from Wales, pretty good band they are, called the Manics. :)

2002: NOFX, The Offspring, The Prodigy, Guns N Roses, The Dandy Warhols, The White Stripes, Weezer, Pulp, The Strokes, Andrew WK!, The Hives, Muse (back when they were decent), Foo Fighters

So many bands as you can see. The Friday this year at Leeds is good, some nice bookings for that day but the other two days are piss-weak.

Oh, and ten years later the tents still have utter shite. Occasionally FR get really good acts like the Manics, Dinosaur Jr, Eagles Of Death Metal, Silversun Pickups and Primal Scream, but most of it has always been, and always will be, comprised of flavour-of-the-moment crap that no-one will care about one year on from the festival. Remember The Others? Exactly.

Wasn't it because of the poor pound to the dollar exchange..? Let's see how many major bands (top 4 mainstage & NME headliners) we have that use dollars... Kings of Leon, Fall out Boy, Faith No More, Gossip(), YeahYeahYeahs and Vampire Weekend (again I don't imagine they're being paid loads). So thats 6/15 (2 of which I doubt are actually given much)... f**k off.

2000 and 2002 were undeniably two briliant lineups but I still think the overall standered for the other stages was lower than it is now. Yes very few FR bands will be remembered in 10 years time bu the style of music on the stages is much more my cup of tea, same for NME stage.
