Your boss a bloke?

If so tell him you are having "lady" problems....most blokes run a mile and the sheer mention of anything Gynae. lol. :D

Also you can self certify for 5 days which covers a week. After that most employers will ask for a sick note...

if your looking for a sick note, I'm fairly certain back pains are very hard for a doctor to find thus meaning they'll give you a sick note as they dont know any better. could do what I did in Turkey slipped the doctor a few quid got a sick note and had to stay on holiday for an extra week and claim for a new flight off the insurance.

Obviously nobody would want to lie or abuse the trust of their employers, but here is some information on sickness absence from work

Gastroenteritis (squits) comes on very quickly, lasts a few days, and you should not return to work for 48 hours after the diarrhoea settles

Bad back is a major cause of lost days from work and is virtually unprovable by medical investigation

Stress is another biggy

Your boss cannot ask for anything more than a note from yourself for anything so long as you have not been absent for 7 days or more

For those interested in complications of the common cold:

Laryngitis: a condition that makes you cough and sound hoarse and like you've smoked too much, and requires resting of the voice (thus making the requirement of a 'phonecall very unreasonable).

Labyrinthitis: an inflammation of the inner ear leading to disorientation, dizziness and vomiting, rather similar to acute alcohol intoxification.

:)

Don't the guy sitting next to me at work this week has lost his voice and is generally ill! I am so scared he is actually properly going to make me sick prior to Glastonbury. I would far rather he buggered off home! Although saying that I kept coming in when I was sick last month so suppose I can't complain!

I got ill right after Glastonbury last year........went down like a sack of spuds.

Back from Glasto on the Monday, worked Tuesday........Weds AM I was throwing up all over the place...turned out after a quick visit to the GP that I had acid indigestion...."have you been eating spicey foods or drinking a lot over the last week he asked.....about 100 gallons of brothers/burrow hill/strongbow over the weekend did it. Was off till friday - then I had the following 2 weeks booked off for Exit festival! :)

you'll never get away with it, back to work and not banging on about how great it was, plus the tan will be a dead giveaway

  • 4 weeks later...

I'm a little worried about calling in sick now! i have to ring in every day unless i have a doctors cert. i know it's a terrible thing to do but i know i wouldn't get the time off as others have been turned down for various things.

i was thinking of saying i got a bad back and maybe getting my bro to call in for me sighting that I'm so off it with the pain killers that I'm sleeping all the time.

does that sound a good enough excuse?

TBH if one of my team's relatives called in to say they had a bad back and were asleep all the time, I'd tell the relative to tell the ill person to call in when they woke up...

However, if the team member called in and said they had flu-like symptoms I would scream at them down the phone to KEEP THE HELL AWAY UNTIL YOU ARE BETTER!!!

Bad backs are a good one - you can get a Drs note soooo easilly and you could say that you were given tablets that knock you out as the pain is so bad. A collegue was off a while a go with a bad back and when they tried to ring in sick the receptionist thought it was a prank calll becuase the person made no sense

i dont really want to go to the docs and get a sick note, i'd feel an even bigger fraud!!

i have to self cert for the first 5 days, i work Mon - Fri, I'll be off Thur, Fri and the following monday if i end up taking the Wed as our travel arrangements aren't finalised will i need a docs cert? it would be 6 days in total or does it only count as work days? i.e thur, fri and mon = 3 days?

    • Proper special gig tonight. They won't mean much to most people, but The Dogs D'Amour were one of the most significant bands of my youth.   Tyla, yer main man of said band, was playing in Birkenhead tonight. Not many there, but it was going fine. Then he decided he didn't like the smoke and the flashing lights so suggested moving the gig to the beer garden. Off we all went, and it was magical. Like having your favourite musician play in your garden. I absolutely loved it.   Before:     After:
