I'm thinking of taking a little jar of pesto/other kinds of sauces and some pasta to make some cheap meals. I also get those asda pasta pot things and put a bit too much water in them, then dip in some bread :(

Stoves only really take a long time to heat up if its windy, if you try and have it in sheltered place and cover it up it shouldn't take too long. Freezing things is a good way to make them last longer, i do it with milk for my tea, makes it last a bit longer and theres always a bit defrosted to use, or if you can get them some of those little milk tubs.

A few years ago at a festival my friend brought carrots and other veg with him for a health snack, it would be quite easy to make stir frys and other things if you have the patience!

they bring fresh milk round each day!

All sounds fabulous, but maybe a little more camping trippy than festivally! I'd rather see whats happening round the stages than slaving over a (semi) hot stove!

Take bananas and cereal bars... buy the rest on site! Its only 5 days! So what if you eat something a little unhealthy?! You'll be guzzling cider until the cows come home, so the odd burger, falafel, square pie, hog roast etc etc ain't really going to hurt!!

Which reminds me - belatedly - of a good food to take with you even if you're mostly buying on site: granola.

That is,

- Jordan's Original Crunch Cereal

- Somerfield Crunchy Oat Cereal

- Lidl Master Cruch

- etc.

It's fairly light to carry, it's got "good" carbs to set you up for the day, plus sugar for an instant boost. You can eat it dry, when you wake up starving hungry but can't be arsed to go anywhere. You can add milk or yoghurt if you can be bothered to tramp down to the site to buy some.

Not strictly true, they do sell big cartons of apple and orange juice, and I think some dodgy milkshake-esq substances too!

  • 4 weeks later...

I bring cereal bars justtt in case feeling low on blood sugar, but buy everything else in the site.

My best meals were around green fields. I had plenty of vegan nut/bean/tofu burgers, falafal and hummus in pita, noodles, salads, vegan carrot cake, fresh fruits, smoothies...

It's true, the further toward the gigs you get the more expensive and more inferior generally. I had a mexican that looked lovely but was very overpriced and ended up as tasteless mushy bean slodge. :/.

The exceptions though are just Falafs and honeybuns ( who do delicious cakes) right in the gig area. Both are chains but pretty ethical. I think I'll have a vegan crepe this year, if anyone could recommend anywhere?

Milk Tractor...

Yep - it's real all right... what happens is that you will open one bleary eye to the sound of someone perched on the top of the trailer hollering...

"MIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIILLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK!"

You'll then realise that because it's towed by a tractor, it's on the nearest track.... which isn't actually that near when doing the tent peg dodging dance of death to get from your tent to the road.

So, you set a course for where it may next stop and lurch, half asleep in that direction...

Think I've only made it twice...

    • The first half of that game was cracking but then I fell asleep at half time. Maybe that's just the momentum of things.

    • A win is a win but it was a very poor game with only 4 shots on target in the whole game. Scotland obviously handed a massive bonus with Brazil and Morocco drawing but I don't think either of them will be too worried.
