WEATHER 2009 !

As far as I'm concerned, I'm off to Sunrise Celebration this coming weekend, also in Somerset, and starting tomorrow, with the absolutely ideal sunshiney warm conditions that are promised a mere practice run for what most of us want in a months time ...

Pray for improved forecast updates on Monday ......

When I was sitting in the sun this weekend I was actually thinking 'I hope it isn't this hot at Glastonbury', it would be a nightmare. It was literally too hot to move, never mind waking up in a tent in that heat I think I would be partially cooked. I hope that it is warm with the occasional cloudy section to cool us all off.

EEEK! - updated yesterday ...

Netweather summer forecast update

"In recent years the jetstream has generally been further south of it's usual summer location, often tracking right over the top or to the south of the UK, which has lead to some very wet spells, current indications are that this pattern may well re-occur at times this summer, particularly during June and July. This doesn't necessarily mean a repeat performance of the flooding and ongoing wet, cool spells seen during the previous 2 years, but as mentioned during the previous update, it is something we will continue to monitor.

Summer

June

With pressure expected to be higher than average to the North of the UK and lower than average to the South, the rainfall forecast for June is split accordingly, with some southern areas possibly seeing some pretty wet periods, making for a wetter than average month."

Oh hell.

I know there's no point worrying about the weather this far in advance and I know there's nowt anyone can do about it if it does lash down for 5 days solid, but I'm losing the will to live here :D

I just can't do another rain and mud soaked Glastonbury. The thought of trudging through knee deep mud trying to get from one stage to another is making me wanna vom. Plus I have 10 newbies coming with me this year and I'll never be forgiven if we get rain great enough for a Noah's Ark re-enactment.

Please, please, pretty please to any god/prophet/religious icon who wants to listen - don't let it be a wash out.

Please!

There's something missing from this forcast, so I've updated it.

However, localised conditions over Worthy farm and the surrounding fields will be delightfully dry, sunny and warm for the entire Glastonbury festival period, due to the sheer force of will of its attendees. Result!"

Speaking as someone who was there in 97, 98, and every f**king wet year since, who missed 2008 because I couldn't take it anymore after 12 hours stuck in the car park in 2007 because of the mud. I would like to kindly ask those people who say they won't let the rain dampen their spirits or, even worse, those that seem to enjoy it, to SHUT UP.

Thankyou.

thing is, after 05 wash out i convinced myself that it could never get that bad again, and then a year hiatus and then 07...wash out.

Tis pointless getting upset with each other here. This thread is a load of fun and full of people making wild predictions about the weather when it's way too far away to know, and obsessing about websites that equally have no idea really. We all know that but it's still a load of fun so just enjoy ...

There is one way to be absolutely certain of being at Glasto in a hot and sunny dustbowl, barring an extinction level event or the festival stopping. A hot & sunny Glasto will happen again. Maybe this year, maybe next, so just keep going. Never stop. Then you'll be certain to be there for the hot one.

Never give in. Never surrender.

    • Nothing But Thieves was £73 as well. Felt for a while like arena gigs are getting to extreme levels but this is adding to that. I did think there might be more inflation thanks to the latest rise in energy costs and here we are again.
    • Some of GB news headlines are pretty close to it
    • Tbf when they had the Miami Grand Prix F1 race a few weeks ago and there was fear of rain, they said Florida being so humid meant it would drain exceptionally quickly. And tick given it looked basically waterlogged at 8 UK time but by the new start time it was fine.    The nature of the beast though is that it feels like there is a lot of scope for electrical storm induced delays. Last year's Club World Cup and even just open air gigs or festivals in America seem to get affected by this a lot.
    • The Day Today was exceptional and I like how this clip still gets resonance all these years down the line.    Shame to do a rerun now that it would probably be 5 times as expensive just on the rights to the clips alone.
