It's a tricky one since, unlike quite a few Other openers, he's still in the upward phase of his career (creatively), rather than trading on past glories/being something of a nostalgia act. How many 'big name' Other openers had a new record coming out a week before the set? Ben's is out in 2 days... So, yes, this might feel 'different' to the more recent model of Other opener. You can do that with a smartphone, of course. Once through the gates I switch off Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, all notifications except WhatsApp and SMS. I don't look at a single webpage, tweet, email or anything else for 5+ days. I use it solely to message Mrs Benny at home once or twice a day, and to keep in touch with my gang for meet-ups etc. It's a glorious break from the absurdity of modern life outside the superfence. Yeah, I get it - and you're right - without being disrespectful to artists, a lot of what's in the SEC can feel like 'filler' at 4am etc. And the psyforest at BT is wonderful. As is the little Nirvana that is Tribe of Frog! (I love psytrance!) Ben

Except...and again I promise I'm not trying to be difficult...! Boomtown only has all-night stuff on the Friday and Saturday, due to licence, and even then it doesn't have multiple venues running until 6am. And 98% of it is DnB 😝 Ben

It's funny, and only good, how differently we all see things! The principal reason why I don't think anything will quite touch Glastonbury for me is because it's probably unique in the scale and quality of the two halves - day and night. I watch bands from 1130-0000h. I dance to DJs from 0000-0600h. I go to bed for three hours or so, and then get to do all that again. I cannot think of anywhere else that would enable me to do that, 'always' finding stuff I want to see/dance to in those hours. It's quite unbelievable. Ben

Not being a dick, I promise, but destroying? Impacting on one's enjoyment, ability to get to things they want to see etc, I get. But I'm pretty sure Glastonbury is not being destroyed as a success or a business model by having too many people. Ben

Also, surely anything higher than pre-sub doesn't really fit with the 'spirit' of the secret set. The whole point of one of the models of SSs is an artist/band playing 'out of position' - e.g. Killers in JPT. Of course, FFs are only a headliner atm if scheduled, but sub would feel 'wrong' to me for them as a secret set. Ben

I'll be at Truth for Panic Shack, then hightailing it up to The Levels for Paranoid London and then Ki/Ki. Then I think it'll be IMOGEN in Wow before either VTSS on The Levels or Hodge on IICON. That's a pretty spectacular first dance night proper for me! Ben

Other than the Thursday night secret sets, I never found it unmanageable in, say, the afternoon and evening. Never went there for late night stuff, though, so I guess that might have been more difficult. Ben
