  1. Morocco - Spain / Gibraltar ferries are interesting, as a foot passenger, according to the missus 😉 (Her family were travellers who settled in La Linea with their horse truck conversion in the 90s.)
  2. Actually I remember it happening at the time, as it was on the news, but I've seen no details since, so thanks for that, worth looking into further. 🙂
  3. I know the Galunggung glider incident very well, another example of brilliant airmanship. Some other great examples of using a Jet as a glider are the Gimli glider, and my favourite TACA flight 110, where the pilot safely glided and landed a 737 on a grass levee on the side of a canal. Obviously there's the hudson river landing too, but at this point I think everybody knows of Cpt Sully. For those that don't know, and don't want to read the wiki entry, get-there-itis is a casual term used in the aviation industry for a form of plan continuation bias that can be experienced by a pilot. It usually refers to incidents where the pilots really should have turned back, gone around on landing, or diverted, but because of the natural desire to deliver their passengers / goods on time, to the correct place, chose not to. It's one of those situations where trying to do something that in your mind is positive, i.e get there, can actually lead to horrendous suffering and / or loss of life. It's worth knowing about this, because as a normal car driver, this can come into play in our minds without us realising it too... Especially when working to deadlines and not leaving enough time to travel. If we 'feel' like we have to be somewhere by a particular time, it can, subconsciously / without us realising it, make us drive faster and more recklessly. It's certainly something I've caught myself doing, so much so that I avoid giving people an estimated arrival time for long journeys now. Instead I say for example "I'll be there some time AFTER 4" and if it's a 2 hour journey, I'll plan to leave around 1:30, giving me an extra 30 minutes... Since doing this religiously, I've found driving long distances a lot more relaxing. Editing to add: For those that don't know, the Galunggung glider incident is the reason we have groundings and cancellations when those Icelandic volcanos start having fun... Worth looking into, you'll never complain about the groundings and cancellations again when you do. 😉
  4. Good airmanship that, dunno if you've ever heard of this... https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/get-there-itis Hope they got a good round of applause when they got you down (in spite of the inconvenience.)
  5. Sorry I didn't word that very well, my fault... so zero go around attempts at all, just "nah sod this, we're diverting?"
  6. That is terrifying, had it once going into Turkey, bouncing around, sudden drops of what felt like 100s of feet, then a go around to boot, scary as hell. I should note this is the only time I've ever seen cabin crew hurry back to their seats and buckle up, I'm not sure if they even fully finished landing prep, that in itself was a sign. Had a go around in Tenerife once too, everything was fine, felt smooth, felt like we touched down, then we took off again. Announcement said it was due to windshear, but we felt absolutely nothing. Did you go around or divert? And this is why I have absolutely no problem putting my belt on when I'm told to! Being ejected from your seat in serious turbulence can cause life changing injuries. Glad they were ok.
  7. I'm a boring sod, so was watching flight radar yesterday. Lots were diverting to stansted, even from Manchester, I think because they have the runway orientation to allow aircraft to land directly into yesterday's SW wind, or in other words, land with a head wind... My understanding, purely from my pandemic obsession with flying an A320 and B737 on MS flight sim, is that there's fairly restrictive limits for landing, (a 737-800 for example,) in a cross wind (30-33kts,) an even lower limit for a tail wind (10-15kts) but generally no limit, or at least a very high limit, for a head wind! (Specifically for the head wind itself that is, other limits like taxiing, doors, or airfield restrictions etc etc may still come into play though!) Edit: I've just realised that I have gone completely off topic there, and for no reason really... Sorry... So GOOD NEWS... had a quick look around earlier, looks to be no damage from yesterday's storm..
  8. Bit more than a windy day... Yep... And we go again tomorrow here... Not even worth tidying up and repairing any damage today, just going to assess things on Wednesday afternoon.

Do you think this will ever change, is it a passing phase? Myself, I do, and I think it will be sooner than some may think, in the next ten years maybe... Obviously I think they'll still sell out, but the scramble for tickets will become much easier, and there'll be less and less bucket list types around as the trend dies off. (I don't have anything against 'bucket list' types myself, I was one the first time I booked, then I fell in love with everything about the place. But I do think social media influencers influence this, and their interest in festivals is sure to peak and die off at some point.)

Plus, isn't that a similar thing to what this very useful spreadsheet is, but watered down?
  11. Blue Route from the North (M5) was still horrendous right up until early evening on Wednesday last year... We'd left Derby (normally around a 3 hour drive) at 6:30am hoping to arrive around midday, had allowed a couple of hours for extra traffic. We joined the traffic miles out at around 10:30am and we didn't get on to our pitch until around 4pm... The year before we were using Yellow route on the other side, and sailed straight through at around 11am via Glastonbury town without seeing any traffic whatsoever... I think a lot depends on your route, and a dash of luck.
  12. Ground isn't looking too bad at all this morning...
  13. Are we at the same festival? 🤣

    🤣 That's hilarious... Bit of a difference.
  16. Yeh, I've never seen them in 'plumbed together' mode myself, but then I've never seen one overflowing either, so it obviously wasn't necessary at the festivals where I've seen them used. (From memory I've seen them at Splendour and multiple little one day events like 90s fests.) It clearly would be necessary to plumb them together or into a larger tank at Glastonbury (or any other 100k+ festival.) Whatever the answer is, it's not the current solution... It just makes a mockery of the whole don't pee on the land thing when you walk into a urinal to see them all overflowing on to the land. The problem isn't the storage capacity, the problem is those tiny troughs they currently use. They either get full of crap and blocked up, or they get knocked and end up at the wrong angle and overflowing. Clearly that pee is supposed to go somewhere, a big holding tank I presume. With a better urinal design, be it these or another solution, that same holding tank could still be used.
  17. Their website says that they can be stand alone, plumbed together for easy emptying or plumbed into a bigger tank... So literally just a drag and drop replacement if plumbed onto whatever the piss from the big blue fencing goes (or is supposed to go) into.... The main difference is they won't all be broken and overflowing onto the floor by 7pm on Friday evening...
  18. Haha, they are good for a chat, but still very private (not even sure the green / blue screening is needed... Could just be dotted around like those pop up things in London.) The ones around in 2021 had sanni dispensers on that bit in the middle, but they'd been removed in 2022, shame as probably still sensible to clean your hands, covid or no covid... But even then, plenty of room on top for beers. Just have to be mindful of the angle... (For the record, I'm not some weirdo who goes around taking photos of urinals, I did just download these images, after remembering the names of the hire companies, from their websites!!!)
  19. Braver than me, I'm with @stuie on this. You "gotta know when to hold'em, know when to fold'em, know when to walk away and know when to run." Not about to ruin my festival and ruin it for others by confronting a big group of tanked up blokes for just pissing behind the toilets, especially if they had made the effort to get to the toilets in the first place, only to find them unusable and with unrealistic queues. The toilet situation was quite bad last year at times compared to 2022, female in our group had an 'accident' trying to get to a toilet Sunday evening (thankfully we were in fancy dress, so she had spare shorts in her bag...) We always take one of those urinal bottles for emergencies in the middle of the night at our tent. I might carry one around the main festival with me this year. To be honest, the whole 'don't pee on the land thing' works both ways. Whilst I'd never piss on the land, if you want everybody to follow that rule, then the toilet situation has to improve, particularly in places like the (above the) Park or SE corner. Another thing that makes a mockery of the whole thing is the men's urinals, most of that urine ends up on the floor for us to wade through anyway... plastic tubing around the edge of some tarped fencing is not very effective, especially once it gets blocked up. How about some of these all over the place... And their female counterpart (yes I know there is a small area of something similar to these, but there needs to be more, much more, and more spread out across site.) I came across these urinals at several festivals over the last couple of years, and they work really really well, and would be fairly easy to scale up.

Probably a bit late with this but hey ho, that was a busy time of year for me.... https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-67822639 O-rod headlining this year or next... Surely?
  21. Sooo Somersetians... Has it been as dry there the last few days as it has here? No Rain forecast for the next 2 weeks either... Hoping this helps groundwater levels go down a little before we get some more proper frosts.
  22. Well... First of all, this is not exactly a positive article. 😕 However, in terms of Glasto, it could be seen in two ways, a record hot year predicted... 🤩 But also, weather being affected by an El Nino event, just like it was in the run up to 2016... 😬 https://www.metoffice.gov.uk/about-us/press-office/news/weather-and-climate/2023/2024-first-chance-of-year-above-1.5-c-say-climate-scientists#:~:text=The average global temperature for,C above pre-industrial levels.

Could argue that Coldplay are heritage at this point... It'll literally be 1/4 of a century since their first Glastonbury appearance.
