I say why stop at RHCP. Why not see what Fred Durst and the lads are up to? Give Korn a bell? Let’s get the whole Kerrang early 00’s playlist together.

That can’t be what you think their reach is lol. That’d be a dreadful take.

They’re p shit but they’re still as much an entry-level rock band as Foo Fighters, and their popularity is only a smidge below them too. Again, I don’t think they’ll ever play but, if they did, they’d get a bigger crowd than most possible headliners.

Richard Ashcroft and Ian Brown to sub, if I ever saw a pair.

Given that Courteeners obviously skew much larger in the North-West of England than anywhere else though and NGHFB played such a myriad of festival sizes as headliner this year, I'm not sure who could be in the headline frame here. I've got to assume that, if they could afford them, they would go for Kasabian, but given they were only headlining R+L last year, this definitely would look like a step down.

Ian Brown was playing his own outdoor dates in Manchester before the Roses reunited, and obviously has decent history with Cheshire too. I think NBHD could - and will - get away with having him headline. Him and Catfish I reckon.

Is it any different to someone a decade ago saying they don't think Pearl Jam will ever headline Glasto now? Genuine Q cos I have no idea how Pearl Jam were viewed back then.

Eh I dunno either. From what I gather - much unlike RHCP or Green Day - Pearl Jam have never been a massive band in the mainstream here and wouldn't have headlined UK festivals twenty years ago anyway so saying "nah not anymore" ten years ago woulda been weird as they'd only just made it there.

For a few reasons I don't personally think Chilis will ever play Glastonbury either - just posted that thing up the page for goofs - but all I meant was that these still-huge rock bands are most certainly in line with the safe choices that Glastonbury chooses to make with its headline bookings now.

They're in a similar position to Green Day who I also don't think will ever headline Glasto now, though I know others disagree on that.

There must be about four bands you think will headline Glastonbury in the future.

So, @dentalplan @GETOFFAMYLAWN Just putting together a playlist at her request for Mrs Woffy and her current jam is Robyn’s LP (not qqqqquite feeling it yet but getting there), that Maribou State tune and Roisin Murphy’s Jacuzzi Rollercoaster track.

    Recommendations up that alley?

It’ll be all 60s ‘girl bands’ if it were up to me.

I haven't listened to any of those things pal, sorry.

I can’t see DL having the balls to put DA as a sub (nor do I think they are big enough).

Maybe it was Tool's choice, rather than the festival? I can totally see it though, however it may have come about.

That third line is probably Zippo heads, but Rob Zombie would close it early I guess.

Oh hadn't realised the whole thing was out now, good to hear!

I wouldn’t have known if I didn’t make note when it was announced. She doesn’t seem to be getting the coverage as much this time out, but she’s still selling out venues so fans remember at least.

Do you think we'd ever get old prog bands like Kansas and Styx at Download?

I think Stone Free and Ramblin Man Fair popping up in the past few years has taken that sorta thing right off the menu at Download.

Foals, Courteeners, Wombats (they'll probably have to start recycling acts next year) should be the front runners for 2020. Unless like wolf Alice blow up or something

So you saw the lineup come out today and you still think Foals would be possible next year and Wolf Alice aren't likely to be big enough? Accept the god damn thing for what it is lol

  10. The White Stripes, R.E.M., Pulp

The Walkmen (Park, evening), Kyuss (Other, afternoon), Klaxons (John Peel, evening*)

*I would have them headlining the Park or the John Peel but I can't miss my headliners obviously

It is £5 cheaper this year and there is an extra act (assuming that this is the mainstage lineup).

Still, I can't see this selling well at all. Kooks especially seems like a weird booking for headliner, definitely weaker than Catfish and Two Door.

Why would you assume that's the main stage? I can't see Kate Nash playing third down the main stage at this, probs a second stage hl.

I think it'll sell much better than is being suggested. The Kooks played an arena tour last year and haven't announced tour dates for this album. I'm not defending them musically at all but if people could get some perspective, that's bigger than Two Door Cinema Club do, or Catfish at the time they headlined. Bastille was the only perhaps feasible headliner bigger than them, but they could quite easily have been argued too big for this. Obviously TDCC/Vaccines/YMAS was a bigger 1-2-3 than Kooks/Blossoms/Kate Nash but there are clearly still bands to be announced that have to get their tours out of the way.

When do we usually get an IOW announcement? Find it well hard to predict. Could see anyone headlining from Mumford and Sons, Florence and the Machine, Foals, Muse, Bon Jovi, Elton John, Eagles, Maroon 5 off the top of my head. Probs a load more if I thought about it, too.

P!nk maybe ruled out because of her Wembley dates? Maybe even Muse, too.

Pretty sure the first one comes November to early December.

Yeah I think Muse, Eagles and Pink will be ruled out by stadium dates. Possibly Elton too, but they might make an exception to get him on the final tour. I read that Phil Collins is due to hit Europe again next summer but I'm not sure bout him playing this if he hasn't on the last couple of summers. Bon Jovi announcement should be next week so I reckon that'll be stadiums too.

Going fer Maroon 5, Flo & Foals and Elton at this point.
