Is there any news of a new TDCC record at this point? Would be weird for them to come back without new stuff (especially if they are getting bumped up to sub which I imagine would be).

I still reckon 30STM are possible too, can't see them doing any other UK fests instead so if they are around I don't see why they couldn't play (though just looked up Diechbrand and I see it's late July, so a good chance they won't even be around in Europe by R&L rolls around).

    They’ll definitely have new stuff.

30 Seconds to Mars didn’t get on the lineup this year when they were completely around the festival and FR were scrambling around for names so why would they get them a year later?

Do you reckon BFMV could play? Considering they subbed Download this year I’d assume they’d want too high a slot, possibly the same for Offspring.

They’re also playing that festival I think.

Maybe. I didn't mention them because I imagine they're closer to Reading and Leeds when they're not playing festivals in Germany. :P They played 4th down back when they were already a sub at Download but I don't know what the point in even booking them back 4th down would be. They were bigger then, and wouldn't accept lower now.

I imagine that is probably the case for The Offspring, as they play August (mainly German) festivals every other year and haven't returned to R+L since 2011. Headlining Lock Up would be a pretty great move from the festival and they're not actually much bigger than that nowadays, but it doesn't seem forthcoming.

Not sure that's a fair comparison dental, Massive Attack are one of the few major acts from Bristol (Portishead are the only other big one that comes to mind) so their homecoming shows are likely to take on greater significance.

The NW gets behind any old shit.

I don't see Crispy Ambulance playing Heaton Park.

Massive Attack being the Courteeners of Bristol is no bad thing. They're actually a great emblem for the city.

  4. Goes pretty hard. If it's not an EP then it's as short as one - and the short duration means I'll probably go back to it as little as I do Prima Donna or Hell Can Wait - but it's solid as you'd expect from Staples. Most consistent rapper I can think of from this era.

These new hip hop releases are coming thick and fast now though. Last few days have also seen Ice Cube, J.I.D, Smino and Cupcakke all announce new stuff to come before the year's out. Not to mention Oxnard drops in two weeks and Yandhi in three. Something good to take our minds off how cold and wet it is.

Not really. They haven't done an indoor tour for ages so the 02 date is likely to sell well. I'd say it makes it less likely but not impossible.

Not that long ago - around the time of the last EP iirc, which was 2016. And I don’t think the O2 will sell to the point they can announce a 40k capacity gig for the overspill next week.

Could be way off the mark but I’m not even convinced the arena tour will sell out. They’ve done a lot of big, Mezzanine heavy gigs over the past few years to satisfy most people who would’ve been interested.

I've no idea what it'll be, but someone also mentioned that they never announced on a Sunday last year which I can't remember them doing either. I agree it would be a bit frustrating if it's an 'announcement of an announcement', or it could even be an act a day like they did last year. I'm not saying they are playing, it just seems a coincidence if Mad Cool and Muse do end up making an announcement on the same day, Muse are confirmed to play in Madrid and that leaked poster puts them in Europe within days of Mad Cool finishing.

Muse look confirmed to play their own show in Madrid, as @Nicklord said. The timing isn't really coincidental because lots of summer festivals are announcing now, and they were already known to be touring July anyway because of Rock Werchter. Even if it turns out to be, for whatever reason, an announcement that there's gonna be an announcement; I don't think it'll be Muse for Mad Cool.

So if Mad Cools announcement on Sunday is a 24 hour countdown

I thought that was a joke? Why would that be the announcement? Surely they'd just call it '5AVE T11E DATE' if they were teasing an announcement on Monday.

Any particular reason for that thought? I expect them to be there, but 2/3 times? Because they’re on Heavenly?

Between that and loving playing gigs/being big into the festival scene, yeah. Don't they seem to you like the sort of band that will be on JP/Park, Wills Green and Crow's Nest across the weekend?

Boy Azooga are really good. I've missed them about 4 times now due to prior commitments, still really want to get to a show of theirs.

If you've managed to get a ticket to next year's Glastonbury, I think you'll have two or three opportunities over the weekend.

  10. It's not just Snailo's voice that makes her a ropey live proposition, it's the sudden realisation that each song sounds like the last.

That Boy Azooga Christmas show is cool. Like bands who get bigger but still do stuff like that for the hell of it. Think they'll stick around for the long haul.

  11. He's doing a festival tour though; he's gonna have to adapt his set for festival main stages. Can't see many fests being happy if he disappears for 22 minutes in the middle.

Had no problem subbing Lady Gaga at Coachella last year and it actually got good reviews. In an ideal world all our faves would get extended headline slots on smaller stages but it'd be quite unlike a typical Other Stage headliner as far as the fest is concerned and Big Justin wants to be on those big stages.

  12. To be clear, I wasn't being serious about suggesting someone knew something cos Liam Gallagher was such low odds. I was taking the mick out of the running updates on The Strokes' odds. I'm guessing that Betway (was it?) had seen him reported in the NME a few times talking about being at Glastonbury and thought he was the best bet on opening the market. Nobody should really anticipate that he's headlining (unless they run out of options by April).

Saying that, I don't know how LG ties in to subbing Paul McCartney at all. Sir Macca chose his own sub last time and it was the Black Eyed Peas; I sincerely doubt that Paul listens to and enjoys a lot of Liam Gallagher's material. This arrangement only really works if Liam gets to choose his own headliner or if the festival decides "wouldn't it be funny to get the guy whose brother idolises and rips off The Beatles to play before fella off of Beatles?". Shit don't make sense.

Dunno what to read into it, but they certainly weren't hanging around. Either (a) they already had an inkling or (b) he's fessed straight up to them on the allegations coming out. Certainly doesn't look like a group backing their mate up does it?

I don’t think it’s any of that. They’re following their (his) own words and believing the survivors. It’s not about backing up their mate, the whole discussion yesterday about not presuming innocence of someone because they’re a friend etc. comes in here.
