I didn't call you an MRA, and you really should've reframed your question ans gone into more detail instead of repeating the word boycott three times with no other information.

Okay, but something like Bradders' post woulda been an exemplary way of clearing up the mess before it got into ugly insinuations.

But I apologise for derailing what is an agreeable message.

No it's not a boycott, what's the matter with you?

As well you fucking know, a boycott is if I'd said "let's all never buy music from male artists ever again", which isn't what I said at all. I've suggested that we think about increasing our support for female/non-binary musicians, I never even hinted that we stop supporting all male artists. For you to start trying to misrepresent it as an attack on men is a pretty irresponsible shift in focus from the issue we're discussing. I've come up with a suggestion for people to think about and you're trying to discredit it with scary-sounding buzzwords. What's your angle?

I genuinely didn't understand you were merely saying "let's make a conceited effort to push more money towards fem/nb artists" and it did seem to hint at a boycott, especially when you doubled down on saying that you were directing your money away from mega artists and towards smaller artists and would look to take gender into account. Misunderstanding clearly but you were quick to pull the trigger on the male rights activist thing so whatever.

Anyone else feel pretty uncomfortable about the bullying and targeting of one specific individual on here? Seems to be going a bit over the top now...

Posting his shit up there is definitely crossing a line, but it's Gazza's call to make and he seems to be arguing about it rather than reporting it so I don't know really.

  4. You can still get Disturbed tickets at AP, and I'm sure Bring Me are doing two dates - one being sold out.

I do think they done fucked up by doing a tour of smaller arenas before the album is out. I'm only a shitmuncher but even I know that pre-release shows are where they debut new stuff in a smaller setting to see which songs work, and for fans to get excited about the band again. Don't think fans ought to be that excited about hearing new songs from seats fuckin miles away.

But yeah, it does seem like respected veterans seem to be the ones threatening to move up into Download headline slots more than new blood is. Would be tragic if Disturbed made it there but it's similar across the board.

If you can't go back to Freedom's Goblin that's on you, not him. The others are up for debate, I do really like the GOGGS one though.

Oh, my b that was a good disc. Kinda forgot it had come out this year with all the stuff we've had since.

Very good points made by Ellis from Trust Fund here. https://mobile.twitter.com/TRUST_FUND/status/1057233930024349696

For us as fans, I think there's real merit to the idea that we (particularly males) should be recognising that non-male acts deserve our support more. This sort of shit is going on, in large part, because of male privilege and dominance in music.

Erm, not sure about this one Ames. Is this suggestive of a small-scale boycott against all-male artists?

On another note, The prophecy is complete and Ty Segall will have released at least 6 albums by the end of 2018. King Gizzard eat your heart out. New single with his new band The CIA here, album out in December. Sounds great, him, his wife and Emmett Kelly.

He should quit dicking around and try making an album that someone wants to listen to more than once.

  7. I don't wanna skip on that discussion but this is some big news about 2019 new music, but with a new song out in 2018 so I think it's important to this thread.

New Deerhunter album 'Why Hasn’t Everything Already Disappeared?', out Jan 18 (same day as SVE, LUH, Twilight Sad).

Does he do consecutive days in different countries? Shame if he's touring around Glastonbury again and he doesn't play.

No idea. Doesn’t seem to really tour that much as opposed to doing festivals so it’s hard to have a proper sample.

I know the odds are meaningless really but I'm still confused about who is betting enough on The Strokes to headline that they're now 4/7.

I feel like it's because every time someone posts about The Strokes odds, someone else puts a couple of quid on it and the odds keep shrinking.

Shame they don't do cash out on these. I'd put money on the outside ones, spread believable lies about banjo salesmen and cash out when the odds get close to evens.

Possibly something in that but I think the pattern of a summer of own shows followed by a summer of lower paying festivals is the norm and what the big bands now want. The precedent has been set by the likes of GnR and maximises profits for the bands. I just don't think Metallica will be doing festivals in 2020 either.

I've only ever seen that with stadiums - five arenas aren't really worth foregoing festivals for. A bunch of indoor shows in summer are what bands seem to do if they're shut out of festival headline slots.

Besides, a GNR reunion tour is gonna work in the opposite way to a farewell tour as people will be really desperate to get in early on the reunion tour and later in the farewell tour. And off the top of my head with farewell shows at Download; Sabbath announced a tour after Download, Crue did as well and Aerosmith didn't do any more dates so it didn't really come into it. Come to think of it, Slayer seem to have announced one festival in Europe, and it's in a country where they have no farewell arena shows so I wouldn't be surprised if they drew the line at that now.

Fair enough if Metallica don't tour but still, I think they can and will do better than having KISS again.
