Still not gonna get over how dissapointed I was by the album. The double release of Django Jane & Make Me Feel was amazing and then the rest of the album ia just kinda alright imo. She got my hopes up too much with those 2 singles I think.
Yep, my thoughts too. Stage felt completely set for Monae to step up with a massively important album but it just felt a bit phoned in instead. She’s still cool as hell and I’d love to see her on the farm (or elsewhere) next summer but a little disappointed nonetheless.

Friday third down: Within Temptation
Saturday third down: Architects
Sunday third down: Slayer
Friday Zippo headliner: ...Pendulum?
I think...
- Friday Zippo will be Rob Zombie as I can't see him (them?) being third down nowadays. Die Antwoord another Zippo HL.
- Whitesnake and Slash subs, obviously, alongside Slayer.
- Halestorm and Architects third down, still to come.
- Trivium in either Zippo HL or third down, but Within Temptation in whichever slot they don't do.

QOTSA were due to perform last year but had a change of heart after and wanted to do their own shows. They were meant to be Headlining after the secret set.
We heard in July 2017 that they were doing their own shows in 2018.

Didn't notice Opeth at first. Subbed second stage last time around so main stage Tool day? Like 4th down?
Are Mastodon doing owt next year? They're one of around three good acts that Download ever books so I need one of them or Deftones please.
They announced a big UK tour today but it's out of the way by end of January so maybe they'll be in a future announcement.

LCD Soundsystem did Lovebox in 2016 followed by All Points East in 2017 both in Victoria Park, so it could potentially happen.
...
Well that's a very good point.
edit: I was ruling Tame Impala out on this as well so maybe they could stop by.

So this might rule them out for 19, but not for 20 as it will have it's own rules as the 50th edition, I guess
Personally I don't see them playing at all on the upcoming album and seeing how the land lies on the next one, but who knows really. I might be completely wrong and they've been sent tumbling down the lineup like peeps her suggest. It just seems at this point that they can still keep their headline status.

Yeah they're now an arena rock band who've been doing the rounds in the UK for a long time. So probably more than have heard of Arcade Fire or The Black Keys.

Very Prince-y this one. Love it. Her album's really grown on me, been listening to it a lot recently.
Has it been rising up your AOTY list?

I actually thought Foals as Other headliners would make sense, it's not?
They're still trying to cement their status as major festival headliners and they've no reason not to keep going with that.

Lol is this poster the one they sent to South African press or what?

Foals just announced for Rock am Ring - puts them in the frame for this.
It does go well with the timing but they played Vicky Park last year so I don’t see the point for either party.

Don't really see where Foals fit at GF these days, they're not going to sub the Pyramid again so soon after the last one and they're nowhere near the headliner conversation these days.
Could they be an outside bet for the Other?
Doubt they’ll appear at all. Think they’ll be an Isle of Wight headliner.

Ugh Tool have announced their whole tour as well so probably not gonna be ant arena dates to go with Download.
Could probably go see them abroad for the price of a DL day ticket.
-
Foals are back. At Rock am Ring. First 1975 summer date too.
-
No Def Leppard either.

Die Antwoord. Nice.

I don't think that Tool are a good fit for festivals at all, to be honest. The control that they want (no phones, no screens at venues, etc.) and having quite a devoted and also broad fanbase doesn't really go well with playing festival shows and they're big enough to play big shows of their own now. That clue last night did obviously point heavily towards Tool and obviously Download have had them before, but I won't be surprised if it turns out to be a red herring of some sort.

Trying to keep this thread in the spirit it was intended, probably the only thing that gets me down at the festival is the litter. I just hate it, and despite all the campaigns and slogans, and despite the pledge in 2017, it isn't getting any better. I am no fan of rules or Draconian authority, but I think it's time something was put in place whereby the ars***les who drop their litter where they stand were made to face some consequences.
I get what you mean but it gets a bit preposterous in my pocket.

Or maybe they just don't go to V (I mean, not surprising), which could explain her not doing well there. There's plenty of excitement on here for her possible showing at G tbf
Yet nobody really mentions her for a headline slot, which she obviously would be as it transpires she’s a bigger seller than Beyoncé or Swift and is close to Sheeran or Adele levels of demand.

Not too surprising surely, first shows for five years, and she's sold a hellluva lot of records. Big fanbase, and most will have grown up enough to afford the tickets now
Love to see her on the Pyramid next yr
She played V last year and sales were apparently abysmal. Now she’s clocking Sheeran or Coldplay levels of demand, and people are still talking about her playing the Ellie Goulding slot at Glastonbury. It’s definitely surprising.

Shit yeah. I was thinking they wouldn’t do because of London shows in running years - not necessarily VP - but then LCD doing consecutive years then changed things, and then you correcting that changed things back. I’ve no clue tbh.
