Oh I love the weather, and the weather thread. Saturday in South London was so lovely I contemplated getting a ticket for Bearded Theory. Today it’s so awful I’m considering not ever leaving the house again.
I have a little bit of an in with Dexys, and I asked if they would consider introducing I’m Just Looking into the set. It is absolutely one of the best things ever committed to tape. I was greeted with a fairly withering look. If they haven’t played a track in the last year: I wouldn’t expect it at Glastonbury.
I saw them last year in Brighton. The new album has a few decent tunes, so I’m sure there will be 4 or 5 from that. They’d be mad to drop Geno, Eileen, Jacky Wilson and Until I Believe In My Soul, which were all stunning.
TWFM is 100% gold. And while Sleep Well Beast & Easy to Find were harder to love I’ve totally embraced Frankenstein and Laugh Track. And, crucially, everything works out brilliantly live.
One of the current band mentioned it to me, the Park was a guess (this was back in November) and no day was mentioned. Vague I know, but that’s all I got. 🙂
Interesting poster, if only for the fact that the one band I have been told will probably play the Park stage, and who I haven’t seen mentioned here at all, are on it. (Dexys).
I’m enjoying the upsurge in chat about Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds. They are an absolute force live, and have so many great albums. I was late to them: Abattoir Blues/The Lyre of Orpheus got me started and I think is a perfect place to start. Every album since has also been a masterpiece, and a good few before were too.
I hope they get the big gig one day.
I'm working on the assumption that Glastonbury (a) don't have a 3rd headliner, (b) are desperate for ideas, and (c) reading this thread for inspiration.
So to reiterate, Emily, thats: Nick Cave, Peter Gabriel or The National. Or Lana.
I know my avatar kind of shows some bias, but could Peter Gabriel get the call? He toured last year. Admittedly nothing in the calendar for 2024 yet.
I'd love it if the National or Nick Cave got the gig though. Given that LDR won't be back (probably ever).
