Yes and yes. But as you say the Melvins were never grunge in the way the Manics and Radiohead were never really Britpop in the way Supergrass and Cast were.

But many have gone:

Nirvana

Stone Temple Pilots

Soundgarden

Screaming Trees

Tad

I'm sorry, I just can't hold back, Supergrass britpop?!? I think not. Never took part in any of the media-frenzy shenanigans, no drinks with TB at no 10 or bitch fights with contemporaries, no, just decent, hugely under-rated music that's about as far from Britpop as any of the 'grunge' bands mentioned. And they're still going strong doing their own thing, as they always have. One song (Alright) does not sum up the entire work of the band, and in many ways while britpoppy in some ways is almost the complete antithesis of what Supergrass do best. Yes, they're inspired by some fine british bands (think The Who, Kinks, etc.) but they never followed the same line as, say, Menswear or indeed Cast or any of the other bandwagon-jumpers. I 'spose Super Furry Animals would get lumped into Britpop too? *Rant over, back to hole*

1. Yes.

2. Yes, but were never acheived mainstream recognition.

3. Dead, and had a long period without anything (I think)

4. Again not mainstream.

5.Audioslave are metal/rawk, not really grunge.

6. Fair dos, but it's not the band he was in=no real recognition.

7. Who?

8. They haven't

9. No idea. Not mainstream either.

 I'll ignore your personal attacks on my integrity and position from which to join the debate, it's embarrassing for you frankly.

On the Britpop thing, I never liked Suede (although I thought Animal Nitrate was a good song), but the guitar player was clearly a very talented musician.

Now, you couldn't ever agree with, or acknowlege any talent among Britpop musicians purely because you lazily choose to dismiss an entire movement.

Why would you do that? It astounds me that you profess to be a passionate fan of music yet are prepared to limit your own listening in such a way. For me, it's an insult to music lovers who are open minded enough to realise that although they don't like the idea of such a movement, there may be bands/songs/riffs associated with it they enjoy.

I do not recognise Brit Pop as a genuine genre. It was created by lazy journalists in conjunction with the media to market British culture to the rest of the world. It was politically endorsed music that had a strict set of rules. By that premiss how can there be any talent. It's like Britany Speares singing Star Spangled Banner, listening to that horrible s**t.

Blur I will talk about as an indie or alternative band. But once you speak of that circus act that did the adverts for British culture in 'Parklife' and 'Boys and Girls' you've lost me.

Right, so Britpop is not a functional genre, but lumping Mudhoney in with Soundgarden and Tad in with Nirvana and Pearl Jam is something you're completely happy with?

And now, because you like Blur, they're not part of the Britpop movement you deny actually exists, the same non-existant movement you blame for Mudhoney underachieving?

    • Don Broco secret set.
    • Regarding PinkPantheress: I watched the ending of The Cure from the back and then bolted straight to Cupra to save spots on the steps for my entire festival crew. Thus, we all had a good experience there. Sucks that not everybody got to properly see it, but it felt like something out of Glastonbury where those who showed up long in advance got to see a big artist on a smaller stage in good conditions.
