Oxfam volunteers

Hi all just wondering if anyone else on here has volunteered to Steward with oxfam. This is going to be my first experience of volunteering and I m quite looking forward to seeing another side to the festival.

There's quite a few people on here volunteer for Oxfam.

Personally I don't really feel that I see another side to the festival. The main difference is having a quieter safer place to camp, but it is about a 10 min walk to Gate B. And not paying for my ticket, or stressing about getting one.

I guess I've become more aware of the organisational side of putting on and running festivals. If you have a radio or are in the Oxbox control room then you hear a bit more of any incidents I guess, but generally it's the luck of the draw what shifts you do and where you do them. That can make a big difference as to whether you see new things, or just stand on a remote gate hardly interacting with anyone for 8 hours.

There's about 2500 of us for Glastonbury. The majority are young students I would say, but there is still a good mix of older folks. Last year was hard work; the rain and mud made it difficult for everyone really.

Since I started with Oxfam, I've not done a festival any other way.

Plenty of stewards come back on a yearly basis and there is a real age range of volunteers. If you are on face book then there is dedicated Oxfam Stewards group - OxfamFestivalsTeam - where you can get up to date info on each festival and link with others who are attending  as stewards.

I've volunteered with Oxfam every year since 2008 - It's a great way to do a festival.

You want someone to gently whisper "Smexytime" into an Oxfam supervisors ears? Bit creepy.
