Young Person's Car Hire

JGP

Recommended Posts

I turn 21 before next year's festival so I can finally rent a car. Would much rather do this instead of getting the coach to the festival because it was a bit of a nightmare last year with all of our stuff. Does anyone know of any good companies who don't have a ridiculous surcharge for people under 25? Would need to be based in Birmingham. Thanks :)

Would it be worth it do you think? You would need to hire it for a week (assuming you picked it up on the Tuesday and returned it the following Monday) and all you would be using it for would be one journey down to Glasto from Birmingham, park it up in a car park for the week, then drive it home again! Not sure it would be worth the money to just have it sat doing nothing for days.

Doesn't anyone else in your group have a car?

Can't really help the OP but we're also looking into the possibillity of hiring a bigger car than the ones we have. We had a brief look around, probably looking about £250 for the week. Main reason is that doing the full drive back last time was horrible - if we can get something big enough for 5 people + stuff we can split the driving between two of us. Once we take the duplicate petrol and car park cost into account it whould work out about £30-40 each. Not ideal but if you've got enough people to split the cost between it may well work out cheaper than the coach (and it's a lot more convenient!)

Yeah you'd probably be looking at at LEAST £20 a day for it to sit doing nothing, plus fuel on top of that

The coach is roughly £50 return for each of us so the car hire wouldn't be that much more expensive I don't think. Kind of feel like it might be worth it to avoid the hassle of the coach as it hopefully shouldn't be a lot more money.

A few years ago Mrs Donthaveacoolname and myself and little fella hired a car to travel down from Bristol Airport (after flying in from Ireland) to the site and back up, yes it just sat in a field for 4/5 days (in those days we only arrived on site on Thursday afternoon or Friday morning) but defo worth it in our case getting a coach from the airport in to Bristol and then the bus down and not much more expensive. and a lot less hassle
