DSLR or COMPACT?

This was the my first festival in a few years where I've left my DSLR and lenses at home... instead I bought a Sony Cybershot RX-100 compact camera, I wanted something small and lighter and didn't want the worry of having a few grand on my back at all times!

Anyways I managed to pick up this little Sony pocket camera for £350, and wondered if anyone else had switched from DSLR to compact recently?

I took my film SLR with a 50mm and a 24mm. Took eight rolls of film that I'm getting processed tomorrow.

Can't wait to find out what's on them Time to get the film scanner out.

Old school film ey, fair play to you.

I didn't bother with a camera this year but my girlfriend took some crackers just on her iphone.

Yeah, It's more fun than digital and uses up no batteries. It wasn't that much lighter or less bulky than my DSLR though, next time I might take a rangefinder.

Didn't take my micro three fourths (lumix gf2). Regretting, my SIII couldn't cope.

Did miss my telephoto lens and DSLR but in low light my little Sony compact was even better! :-)

Samsung Galaxy Camera - best of both worlds!

Havent seen any image samples from the galaxy camera, would be interested to check some out though,dies it have one of the larger compact camera sensors?

I intended to do my normal thing, which is to bring a DSLR (old Canon 40D + a standard zoom and a telephoto) and a compact (Lumix LX7 with RAW and a wideangle lens) and then to confine the DSLR usage and its attendant camera rucksack carrying to daytime only.

I actually ended up taking the DSLR out with me on Saturday night, just on a Black Rapid shoulder strap and no bag, and just my standard 24-105mm F4L lens. I had the LX7 as well so I could do wide shots and movies. Then on Sunday night I took the whole kit out and brought my light travel tripod as well so I could do some night / long exposure shots too.

Anyway, here is the fruit of my labours:
