Sziget 2012

In previous year many headliners had not been announced as headliners when they were announced, so there have been lots of speculation in the past about which of the bands would be headlining... Nothing new here! ;)

To me it would make sense if Korn is headlining, since metal is one of the most popular kinds of music in Eastern Europe and Korn's newest metal/dubstep album was quite well received in Hungary according to some Hungarian friends I made at previous editions of the festival.

Yeah me too Andy, I've flights and accommodation booked and am really wanting to hear some great bands being announced. All the other festivals announcing some cool line-ups :)

I'm really hoping for some At the Drive-In action...or Mars Volta!

Placebo headlined 2 years ago and they're headlining again. I'm disappointed if Korn are headlining though - I would like to think they're subbing for a larger act on the main stage (who would obviously be hard rock/metal - e.g. Foos?). Korn don't sell out arena shows in the UK so are they any more popular on the continent?

As for the Tings Tings, please slot them in at 3 or 5, nothing later! I purposely missed them the last time they played.

But what percentage of Sziget Festival are Hungarian? I'd imagine at least half of the festival are from outside Hungary. I'd be very surprised if Korn headlined main stage.

According to some international friends Korn is more popular on the continent than The Stone Roses. They are not unhappy with Korn, but they are with The Stone Roses...

This reminds me of last year, when the discussions were about the same:

- Nobody liked Pulp headlining, except for the British.

- The Hungarians were very happy with 30 Seconds To Mars and White Lies headlining, but in all other countries these were considered really weak.

- The Prodigy and Prince were considered to be good headliners by almost all international Sziget-visitors, but in Hungary the opinions were totally the opposite.

- The Chemical Brothers were more or less the only headliners that everyone had the same opinion about: not super, but okay.

If you compare it with last year, you can say The Stone Roses are now taking the place of Pulp, while you can compare Korn with The Chemical Brothers (although here they are not as big as on the continent). Placebo has both advantages of The Chemical Brothers' category and the category of 30 Seconds To Mars and White Lies: they are generally considered to be not super but okay, while in Hungary they are really popular. For that reason I think Placebo is a better headliner than 30 Seconds To Mars, White Lies and The Chemical Brothers, although personally I think they're really boring.

With such different tastes in music in the Sziget crowd, I think we shouldn't expect to have six headliners we all like. Personally I would even go to Sziget if there were no interesting headlining acts at all - I'm sure I would still have the best week of the year! But of course if there would be two or three good headlining acts that would be a nice bonus. With The Stone Roses we already have one now and I'm sure another one will follow.

We're seriously considering this festival. Already have accommodation provisionally booked, but need to see what other bands are announced before we take the plunge and book flights and buy tickets.

Unlike. it seems, most other people on this forum, we're actually quite interested in seeing Korn live - somehow seem to keep missing them + Placebo - ditto (although, I know they're supposed to be a bit past their prime.....)

I think I'm gonna be watching Korn too, but I truly don't care about Placebo. But, who knows, their new album might be the best ever and will change my opinion. ;)

And seriously, even in the unlikely case all acts to be announced are not good for you, you will certainly not regret going to Sziget once the festival has begun. Sziget is not about line-up, it's about the total experience. People come from everywhere, bands come from everywhere and together everyone makes Sziget a great festival!

    • Totally agree about PinkPantheress stage choice. 'Luckily' for me, one of my main targets, fakemink, was absolutely awful, meaning that I left early and was in a surprisingly good spot at Cupra before it got totally packed.
    • As many said before, not my favourite Primavera. sh*tty weather is something I'm not really used to when enjoying music. Poor communication (more than 1 hour long radio silence during the worst rain) didn't help, but the main problem was me. I decided to leave the venue after things seemed to be getting back to normal. Massive Attack were supposed to play again (with Hymn of the Big Wheel back on the setlist!) as were all other artists on the smaller stages (including Fcukers with one my favourite albums of the year). FOMO was at an all-time high. However, after 4 hours in the rain, I had to admit to myself that I'm not cut out for this. I wasn't even that soaked (water-proof jacket worked). I was just fed up with the rain, wind and cold and wasn't able to enjoy music anymore.   Also, they should stop ignoring the growth of some artists between signing them up and their actual performance. Both PinkPantheress and Ninajirachi sets were ruined for me by completely inadequate stage choice.   However, I felt very much the same way after the 2022 edition and have thoroughly enjoyed all subsequent editions. So I'm still buying early bird tickets for 2027 and hoping this was a hiccup not the start of a downward trend.
    • I will definitely be buying a 2027 early bird pass, partially because of the priority reservation privileges for the Ciutat sets. Hopefully the organization will take action to improve upon this year's failings. Because I thought the free water options and sound quality were an improvement over last year, so clearly they can actually implement positive changes.   I also hope all the douchebag chompers get in the sea, cause I was more bothered by them than in the past few years.   Highlights: The Cure, Ninajirachi, Knocked Loose, Current 93, Blood Orange.
    • Similar feelings to a few others on here. Not my personal favourite edition but a long way from giving up on it. Felt overcrowded at times and there are just too many people there that don't seem to like music that much! Hardly went to main stages which was the plan. Highlights Ralphie Choo, rusowsky, Gorillaz, Geese, Gelli Haha, The Sophs, PinkPantheress, Dijon. Accommodation booked for next year. Thanks for your company and comments over the past year.
