Trolley? Wheelbarrow? anything?!?!

Hello

Does anyone take like a trolley or a wheelbarrow to hall all the ale etc in? Its just carrying a heavy 9 man tent, my rucksack and a crate of ale can be really hard, especially when hot......

Anyone recommend any good tips on getting it there?

Thanks

We've used a sack trolley for the last few years. I'd highly recommend. Combined with what can only be described as an unhealthy amount of gaffer tape, it really does the job.

One of our group brings her wheelbarrow. My god we love that barrow. We worship at the wheels of that barrow. She's not allowed to come without it even though it means she can only fit one other person in the car. Basically we all lug our stuff to inside the gate and then she comes and meets us and we move the gear in relays. We take some bungees to lash the rucksacks on with.

So yeah, get a barrow. Or a sack trolley but either way make sure its the type with big tyres. Small tyres are crap on the rutted trackway. Or grass.

Although I can never see the point of taking beer. Seems a daft thing to waste your energy carrying. Who wants to drink cans of warm beer? It's all about spirits and buying your mixers there. And bags of wine. And the cider bus :D

Bungees. Simple. Easy. Use enough and nothing is going to come off the trolley.

Ratchet straps are a lot better than bungees. Don't even bother trying to use rope or string it may be tight when you set off but it will work loose over the journey.

Also don't overload as thats what causes the trolly graveyards witnessed throughout the carparks every year (remeber often the quoted loading capacity for a trolly is based on it beig used on smooth flat ground so when using it at glasto expect it to carry a bit less than the stated load if you want it to stay I tact)

I'm now looking at ratchet straps on Fleabay. Could someone please explain how they work? I can see they come in 2 parts: a long line of canvas strap and a hook and the second part also has a hook and the ratchet. Scuse my numptyness but how easy are they to set up?

How many would you need to just attach a large heavy holdall and maybe one other bag to a sacktruck. There are 4 for £9.99 which seems a very good price seeing as some bungee deals are nearly that much too.

@Lucy

The strap has a buckle at one end, you wrap the strap around your trolly and it's contents and then thread the other end of the strap through a bobbin and pull tight, the buckle then has a leaver that turns the bobbin each time it is pulled out and that tightens the strap as it is wound round the bobbin. There is then a little spring loaded clip inside that will release the strap when pressed.

Hope that makes sense,

they are what you'd see being used as the guy ropes for the marquees at glasto and are also what is used to fasten the sides down on soft sided lorry trailers.

As to how many youd need it depends on the length of the strap. I only use 1, i got it fom halfords for around £10 and the strap is arround 5 meters long so can be wrapped round a trolley quite a few times.

How easy to assemble and add on / what do people use to extend the base plate on a sack trolley if choosing to do this?

I have seen trolleys at the G with a base plate added on and the bag I intend to put on my trolley is fairly wide and large. Do you drill the plate on? Lash it on? What do you use? Thanks.

I bought a garden trolley for the first time last year and it was fantastic. "Buck the Truck" will be with us again this year :)

The only advice I would give is to take some spare nuts and bolts as no matter how well they are tightened, after a couple of trips to the car park they will all start falling out due to rough ground and ruts.

If you forget to take spares, just wander up and down the roads next to the car park and you can reclaim ones other people have lost! :P

I tried using bungees a few years ago - almost resulted in one of the guys I was camping with losing an eye (such a Mum thing to say, but you know what I mean)

Thick gaffa tape is cheap and really does the job. All you need is a pen-knife or a pair of scissors to cut it when you reach your destination (it won't give up before)
