My girlfriend got a cheap new Sony Ericsson for £20 last year with 2 weeks (!) standby time. On Monday morning after all the texting and calls she'd made it still had half its battery left.

I couldn't find the same one, but this Nokia is the same kind of thing. £7.95 plus £10 credit.

Well I was on Vodafone last year and texts were coming in the next day; but even worse texts to off-site were returning delivery-reports, but they never ever made it. I was charged, and got a delivery report, but the person never received them.

I use a Sony Ericcson w910. It's got a brilliant battery life and you can still get on the net and stuff - cheap as chips now as well

Why would you need to text anyone off-site?!

I'll phone the wife to make sure all is okay, but I won't be texting anyone else. I'll be too busy enjoying myself.
