Mainstage line-up

Now firmly established as one of the finest festivals of the summer, Solfest just goes from strength to strength. This year’s event will be the seventh in the hugely successful story of Solfest. Launching in 2004 with a couple of stages and a mere 1500 paying punters, Solfest now attracts close on ten times that number of people encompassing a veritable town onsite with a myriad of stages, tents, bars, stalls and other attractions.

Those appearing on the main stage at this year’s Solfest include The Magic Numbers. Comprising of two brothers and sisters the London based four piece have dazzled and delighted since their self-titled debut album back in 2005. Their upbeat, summery pop-rock has already given them six top forty records and two top ten albums, with a new album due soon, The Magic Numbers will certainly cast a spell on the Solfest audience.

Also appearing are the truly legendary act The Wailers, who with the iconic Bob Marley at the helm, sold a staggering 250 million records worldwide popularising reggae music. The Wailers are led by the cornerstone of the original band, bassist Aston Barrett (AKA Family Man) who, alongside his now deceased brother Carlton on drums, produced the incredible backbeat that would change popular music. Prepare to be awestruck.

Famed for their incendiary live performances, a cutting edge fusion of acid house, country, blues and radical politics and penning the title track for Channel 4’s The Sopranos, Brixton based nine-piece Alabama 3 return to Solfest by popular demand.

From The Jam, are a band capable of recreating the finest and most memorable moments of possibly the best act to emerge from the musical year zero of 1977, The Jam, not least because their bassist Bruce Foxton was responsible for laying down the killer bass lines that would immortalise the sound of the band. Already gaining the seal of approval from Jam fanatics at home and abroad From The Jam guarantee a trip back in time to the heady days of their namesake’s mega success.

A selection of the most happening and cutting edge indie bands also appear this year including the much talked about London based five piece New Young Pony Club, who as well as being shortlisted for the 2007 Mercury Prize, have toured with Lily Allen and been lauded by indie music bible NME. Also flying the flag for new weird indie are Brighton based The Mummers, an act built around the singing talents of front woman Raissi Khan-Panni, renowned for fusing elements of string, brass and marching bands within their sound. While Dublin based four piece Amoric will definitely leave a huge impression with their haunting alternative rock-pop.

The current wave of singer-songwriters is always guaranteed a welcome at Solfest, and this year is no exception with diminutive Dubliner Wallis Bird returning to perform solo after last year’s impressive full band set, while Solfest favourite Astrid Williamson will thrill with her song writing prowess and classy delivery. Newcomer to Solfest, Patti Plinko And Her Boy who dwells in the more leftfield area of singer-song writing being likened to Bjork, Tom Waits, Regina Spektor and Nina Simone, also appears.

Roots, folk and all its wonderful amalgamations have always been a big part of the Solfest musical experience and this year Baka Beyond bring their unmistakable world music sounds to the main stage. The brainchild of multi-talented musician Martin Cradick, Baka Beyond incorporate influences from Europe, Africa and Ireland. The invigorating sound of Edinburgh based ten-piece Orkestra Del Sol where brass and accordion combine to produce a winning combination of Klemmer, eastern European and ska sounds has already won them many admirers on the other side of the border. We seriously doubt Solfest will be an exception. As if to top that Midlands based whirlwind of sound and fifteen-piece, The Destroyers also take over the main stage with their gloriously over the top turbo-folk and gypsy sounds. Look out to for Austrian based seven-piece Russkaja who manage to combine elements of the madcap ethno-folk of Gogol Bordello and the skank of Reel Big Fish and force it all through a Russian mincer. Expect to be thrilled.

As always at Solfest there’s literally too much to mention, and remember this is only the main stage! Others appearing include Scottish three piece Haight Ashbury, vaudeville folk-rockers Louis Barabbas & The Bedlam 6, bluesman John Fairhurst, lo-fi garage rock duo The Lovely Eggs, the neo-folk/acoustica of Manchester three piece Becca & The Broken Biscuits and reformed west Cumbria indie-rockers Popgun.

In its quest to bring you more value for money the increase in acts mean that main stage performances will commence just after lunch on Saturday and Sunday with each day opening with a short set from a local guest act.

The eclectic, richly varied and dynamic line-up for Solfest main stage 2010 further demonstrates the festival’s commitment to searching out and presenting the most interesting and exciting artists currently performing.

Since its inception in 2004, tickets for Solfest have sold out completely each year. We expect Solfest 2010 to do the same. We recommend getting your tickets early.

We are delighted to be able to announce that we have dragged Solfest kicking and screaming into the 21st century and are able to offer online ticket sales direct from the Solfest website

You can even pay with Paypal so it's not even like it's real money.

I was talking to one of the organisers of Solfest this morning and apparently tickets are selling very fast now that they are available on line. Can't wait to see James... A real memory from my youth.. An I've also heard that a huge drainage soakaway has been installed infront of the matinstage so I won't even get a wet bum as I "sit down, down, down, down, down in sympathy...."
