The Automatic

Just throwing this out there. I was at The Automatic show in Leeds last night and speaking to Paul Mullen afterwards, he said they were on the cards to be in the NME tent somewhere. Not 100%, but more than just the band wanting to play. Not a band I would have looked at twice but for the ycni:m connection but they put on a good show last night and would be a good addition to R&L imo. Discuss.

Probably a band I'd end up missing due to rather sitting and having a beer at my tent. Will catch them if they're between 2 bands I really want to see though.

The stuff they're putting out now isn't too much like Monster - which is definitely a good thing. If you liked yourcodenameis:milo or Reuben when they were around its gone (slightly :P) in this direction. They apparantly had some label issues with their second album not being promoted properly which is why they've dropped off a lot of peoples radars. New album is out now and its not too bad. I'd see them again, but not if they clashed with anyone.

They played early on at the mainstage in 08. I was very surprised at how good they were, was expecting a very cheesy performance. They didn't seem cheesy at all tbh and I was quite impressed by them.

Still I wouldn't want them up high so mid to low NME would be ok or maybe high up on the FR stage.

Got to agree with a few earlier comments on this thread. Went to see them in 08, for the sole reason that Steve Mcqueen was a cracking single and there was nothing else on and I must say I was impressed by them. Think I will be seeing them again, clashes permitting and I think they are a good booking for the fest. They're not going to take anywhere higher than mid nme at best, have 3/4 tracks that most people know and put on a half decent up tempo set. Your not going to get much better than that for a slot that low.
