Simply Red

I have just seen an advert for the Simply Red album Songs of Love and heard at the end of the ad that if you buy the album you can get to pre order tickets for their farewell gig!

So not satisfied with gouging their fans of £85 a ticket (I think these were the cheapest) but they also want them to pay for an album full of old crap they have churned out for the hundredth time so squeeze out the last drops of their fans goodwill.

Despicable - just another in a long list of reason to hate them :P I was never a fan but I never really hated them (it always seemed more energy than was really necessary) but this bit of shitty, money grabbing, bit marketing has just made me really pi**ed off

Are there other bands out there sucking like this?

The ticket price was for the London gig, not sure what the prices are like elsewhere, I just think it's a bit of a bloody cheek putting out yet another album of mouldy oldies, knowing fans will buy it just so they can get hold of the pre order code. :P

Considering that i could spend that money on anything other than Simply Red i do think it's bad.

£50 is more than i get paid for being yelled at all day, why i or anyone else would possibly want to spend anywhere near that amount of money to see a shit band is beyond me; without even considering that the money might end up in that pricks back pocket.

seems to me the whole music industry charges what ever they think they get away with

u2 are on a summer tour and prices start at 75 plus booking etc

old has beens like madonna and maccartney seem to be even more

even newbies like ladt gaga charge that much

really don,t think the band set the prices does anyone????

His wretched, soul-less torrid plasticy synthetic rehashings of classic songs aside, you'd have to say that if there was one individual who would sign off on a scheme like this, it would have to be Hucknall wouldn't it?

:P

To be honest I just amazed that they were using an album purchase as a pre order opportunity and that it wasn't even a new album but a collection of often re released old crap. If I was a fan of Simply Red I would be embarrassed by the bands obvious cashing in on their final tour, I don't have a problem with bands making money, to be fair the music biz can be fickle, depending on your talent and the loyalty of your fanbase you may not have that long to make a good nest egg. But this just seems like cynical profiteering!

I honestly didn't start the thread to bash Simply Red

    • Proper special gig tonight. They won't mean much to most people, but The Dogs D'Amour were one of the most significant bands of my youth.   Tyla, yer main man of said band, was playing in Birkenhead tonight. Not many there, but it was going fine. Then he decided he didn't like the smoke and the flashing lights so suggested moving the gig to the beer garden. Off we all went, and it was magical. Like having your favourite musician play in your garden. I absolutely loved it.   Before:     After:
