I thought after my post that you can also see how full it is from some distance away, and know whether it's worth treking up there. If the England game was on, you could see the point where people were starting to take up a spot and you needed to think about making a move if you wanted to make sure you got in, or you could see it getting full and say "nah - I'm not treking all up there to get turned away and come all the way back down again!"

Keep the flags too - but those lovely Glastonbury versions of all the national flags of all the teams taking part - all the vibrant African and South American ones too! I'm seeing this now - I think we're on a roll!

A few points.

I am Scottish and a Scottish football fan... so not too fussed about watching the England game, that may or may not materialise. If it was on in the Pyramid arena on the Thursday... perhaps I'd watch it but probably not. If it was on during the festival I would probably find something else to do, but may watch it if I was plannig on kicking about the Pyramid arena all night.

I reckon if the organisers come out early enough and say they can't show the game due to not having a suitable venue as well as not knowing where the game will take place etc. people will just need to get on with it. They still have plenty of time to return their ticket and allow other people to buy them.

I reckon the number of people wanting to watch the game if it was shown at the Pyramid arena would be high... maybe 50,000 or so. However if you change that to the cinema arena and perhaps one of the dance tents... this maybe goes down to 30 or 40,000. Ok, so a lot of people won't get to see it but if the communication is good enough and it is made clear that space is very limited then people will just need to deal with it.

If they didn't show it at all... I reckon the number of people wanting to see it if they had to walk / bus / drive to Shepton Mallet or Bristol and miss probably half a day of the festival would be much much smaller... probably 3 to 4,000.

The organisers could also make it clear that people won't be allowed a pass back in after 11pm (which I think is fair enough) to discourage people from leaving the site.

Also... lets put this in perspective... it's a 2nd round match at the WC which England will almost certainly win comfortably. The really interesting match will be the quarters when England generally stuff it up.

Sorry if this idea was mentioned somewhere between pages 21 and now but gave up after half an hour.

Anyway, if a basic principle from the Eavis' was to leave the festival as it is, which is sensible as the infrastructure planning is probably very complex and planning for any event that may or may not happen and may or may not be really popular is pretty much impossible.

The only option then would be to have the football shown in a special area off site. ME approaches one of his neighbours and says I want another big field beyond the western car parks or just behind Paines Ground, which could be approached through 2/3 gaps in the fence. He might have to pay say £100,000 to the farmer and would need another £100,000 to set up walkways, toilets, bars etc plus say £100,000 for the screens, speakers, broadcast rights whatever - so maybe £300,000 altogether.

Rather than eating into the festival budget, he then approachs one or more of the many companies looking to link themselves with the World Cup - Mars, Coca Cola, Mastercard, Sony, Budweiser etc. He can offer them branding access to the wonderful demographic of the Glasto audience - all for just £300,000, which is a drop in the ocean for their World Cup budgets (I know Coca Cola in the UK alone have allocated over £25m for World Cup activity).

Then every game during the festival can be shown, not just the England games. It might be slack for Switzerland vs Honduras head to head with U2 but there may be people who want to check out Portugal vs Brazil for example as well as the England games.

I realise there are problems to be avoided such as bottle necks in and out but that would apply wherever it is shown.

Love the idea of a dedicated world cup area. Maybe an area a bit of a treck away to ensure there are no increae in traffic around the site but then it has all the games on, food from the countries involved. I'm sure a few musicans would want to play as well. What better for a band than playing before England v Germany to get everyone in the mood

For me when i booked my ticket ...At no time did the World cup enter my thinking not before, not since and it wont when i m attending... I'm as big a patriot as the next man is, but when i go to Glasto i wont care about England in the world cup.. I'll take an interest in the results..maybe..the upside if Mr Eavo does put up a big Screen in another field is that there'll be loads more room on the actual festival site which is ace..or if thousands leave the site even better still, cos some are bound to get nicked by the cozzers and other will lose tickets and plenty of other things to keep the numbers down. So all in all it maybe quite good for the those of us who aren't that arsed about The World Cup if they do show it some where...

I love Glasonbury. Anyone who doesn't think that sponsorship is now a big part of it is an idiot.

For money to be made to be donated to Oxfam, Wateraid and Greenpeace then it needs to come in and the ticket price just doesn't cover it.

If you don't believe me then just try going to what was the Cinema Field this year...

Anyway, the idea of a sponsored WC field, showing all of the games is the most sensible I've seen. The England games WILL be shown. The Wednesday will be a wonderful event. Saturady/Sunday is more of a pain but it certainly won't ruin the time of anyone who's not interested.

As usual, fingers crossed for sun and a decent England showing at an International tournament...
