My Dad's going, he's from Ann Arbor, Michigan! Although he moved to Blighty in the 60s.....

And therefore I am also technically an American, although the closest I've come to living there was the summer i spent in NYC.

I heard about it from a friend I met from the Cornwall area. The biggest thing I saw on TV about Glastonbury was Amy Winehouse punching that fan last year.

Hope you have a nice time in London. We tend to moan about the tube, but if you don't need to take it during commuter hours it's generally not as bad as you'd imagine. In zone 1 central though, as others have said, it's often quicker to walk and almost universally more pleasant!

Here's a cool map someone (I think at the Royal College of Art) made of Zone 1 area with minutes walk between stations..

Don't get hung up on the boring must-do stuff like Buckingham Palace... Or worse, really expensive tourist traps - things like Madam Tussauds or the Tower of London. Loads of stuff is free or reasonable, don't get conned! Here's a random list of fun stuff and alternative museums to do:

Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition at the Natural History Museum

Mousetrap (Theatre) - been running without interruption for 52 years

Alessi coffee and tea towers in Lincoln's Inn

Sotheby's have a wine tasting course on

Wow, that is a list and a half ... thanks, just the thing I need seeing as I seem to have nothing much to do in Londinium Town for 3 days next month due to a cancelled gig and other c*ckups various but transport/accommodation is all paid for needless to say ! Done all the usual stuff many times over the years and there's loads of things listed I wouldn't have thought of.

... wanders off to ask Mr.Google about Greenwich Meantime Microbrewery in particular as I defo need to be spending some time there esp if sampling the goods might possibly be involved

They've got a pub called the Union Pub, but the beer is not actually brewed on site, so not so exciting. Incidentally they make Sainsbury's Taste the Difference beers! Anyway, after there, walk up the hill, over the heath and try Zero Degrees in Blackheath, where they do brew on site and they have great and reasonably-priced pizzas. Fab spot!

One other big tip... the canal in London is one of those "best kept secret" things.. Not from me cos I live almost next to it, but I'd recommend everyone has a stroll along it. Start at the Camden Lock end, and walk through Regent's Park, right through the middle of London Zoo, perhaps deviating to go up Primrose Hill for one of the best views of London, or if you're feeling really lazy take the narrowboat ferry, along to Little Venice, which is right next to Paddington Station. Around Little Venice there are some great pubs, try the Bridge Pub (with little theatre upstairs), or the Prince Albert, or the Warrington Hotel (always a pub, never a hotel).

PS If you're feeling energetic, the canal carries on to Ladbroke Grove / Portobello, Westbourne Park, Alperton (great Indian restaurants), Birmingham and beyond! Maybe not in one day though
