Hi all

Was listening to Paul Simon's Graceland last night and was thinking how great it would be to see him at Glastonbury, most probably the sunday afternoon legends slot. Anyone else agree?

i have been to every Glasto since 2000 but can't remember seeing him play. Does anyone know if he ever has? Maybe pre 2000 before i went?

They are clearly ageist then. Prejudiced and discriminating against people because of their age, and not because of their skills or abilities. Would they do the same thing because of the colour of people's skin? Or because of some-one's gender? Or sexual preferences? Or if they had some kind of disability? If these "certain members" were going to get into bed with the acts, maybe they'd have a point. But they are listening to music. And clearly Paul Simon, for example, is one of the greatest in the singer/songwriter folk / world tradition. He'd be an ideal fit for me at the festival. Although I don't think he'll play, there is some talk of a Simon and Garfunkel reunion thing again.

Oh get your head from out of your PC backside, they're not being ageist, or any kind of 'ist', they're merely expressing opinion that some of the acts already booked are of a certain age and in the interest of balance some younger acts need to be booked.

That's ageism. They are saying that people should be booked because of their age, not because of their ability.

And it's not PC. It's disgusting the way that some people - trolls - on this forum are simply saying that they don't Neil Young or Bruce Springsteen's music and they don't want to know, because they are too old. I think this kind of stigamatisation is ridiculous. The best and most interesting performers should be the remit regardless of age, race, religion, gender or sexual orientation.

If you got a problem with any of this - send a letter to your MP. It's the law.

Peace, agreed. I'm probably just over-reacting because I'm sick of it. I mean, if there was a discussion over "Why aren't there any lady headliners?" - where would that leave us?

It's not ageism

Young people (myself included) like to see bands which they are familiar with and WANT to see. I grew up in the 90s, so I didn't grow up with Neil Young or Springsteen. So it's not an ageist comment to say I want to see newer, younger artists. It's merely the same as saying I'd rather go out to a nightclub with my younger friends, then with, say, my dad... or that 70 year old guy who hangs out down our local.

It's not ageist to claim there's an age gap, there is - and we have nothing against an older generation of artists being present at the festival, we just want to see a more even spread. For every Neil Young announced we'd like to see a Muse, Kasabian or Radiohead. And that's just the way it is.

But to compare that to racism, or to say it's as bad as being sexist is wrong. Because those things haven't had an effect on the bands that have had an influence on my life...

Paul Simon would be INCREDIBLE. And I'm a youngie. Pah... haven't even heard of Tony Christie.

But surely there's room for 2 legends on the Sunday afternoon this year, last year Neil Diamond (meh) and Leonard Cohen (AWESOME)... or would that definitely not happen due to the legendary status of headliners? It would annoy a lot of people (but come on PAUL SIMON... who doesn't like him even just a bit?)

    • Tonight was a disgrace. There wasn't *that* much rain, and it wasn’t *that* windy. A festival of this size should be able to withstand some adverse weather without it bringing the whole circus to a standstill. And if it is true that part of a speaker on the Revolut stage fell…   As for the communication - announcing Massive Attack were playing at 12:30 and then nothing for over an hour while people waited in the rain. It’s laughable it really is.   If I said I’ll never come back again I’d be lying. The shambles of Barcelona 2022 and the disgrace of Madrid 2023 didn’t stop me, so this probably won’t either.   This festival gets so much wrong, but it is always saved by having such killer line-ups. It’s just a shame it treats the fans/customers/consumers like animals. Compare it to somewhere like Glastonbury and it’s worlds apart.
    • Yeah, I admit that a small part of me felt relieved when they announced that MA are canceled.. But on the positive side- got to see Florence Road afterall, and they were great
    • Glad I could take the €3 bus to Playa Catalunya! Hope y'all warm and dry up.
