And that was a very strong argument for the second album being better

I preferred the first album, I can put up with anything (even the chavvish element who tag onto certain bands) if it's done well. The second album may have been more musically adept, but it was samey.

Even the apparently all-important record sales back this up.

The argument that "Arctic Monkeys fans prefer the second album" really doesn't ride with me either. If a band releases two albums and you dislike the more recent of the two, chances are you'll no longer consider yourself a "fan" of that band. You might still like them, or think they're good live, but if a band released one album you liked and three years on nothing more that you liked, you probably wouldn't consider yourself a fan anymore.

The Arctic Monkeys might do something good again, and if they do, good luck to them. But in terms of mass appeal, they have unquestionably peaked. The fact that time has passed and the band has matured in some ways doesn't change the fact that they are headlining off the back of one massive album.

Seeing as you're a fan of theirs I imagine I may have to spell it out further... but you do know that where it says "Arctic Monkeys: TBC" in the line-up and rumours page, that means they're definately playing.

I can use visual aids if you want:

    • Too good for the legends slot
    • We had a really good weekend this year. This was our 2nd year after giving it a go last year with 3 year old twins (we do Glasto but don't take the kids and have no plans to in the distant future!!).   Highlights of the weekend for me was Peter Hook & the Light, English Teacher, Flaming Lips, Adult DVD and Alex James (I get the karaoke thing but I still thought it was great). Missed loads of acts we wanted to see due to having two kids in tow but overall we left happy with what we managed to see across the weekend. Some great food vendors, good to see Steak Frites make an appearance this year, one of my faves from Glasto. Festival is really well run, toilets remained clean and stocked with loo roll all weekend, even on Sunday night/Monday morning. The walk from the cars is a ballache but it is what it is, arriving Thursday evening meant we were parked as far away as you could be.   My only gripe is that there seems to be a trend of parents letting their teenagers camp completely separately to them in family camping. We had a large group of 15-17 year olds near us who came home pissed up every evening at 3-4am being really loud and annoying! I get that it's a festival etc but I think it's taking the piss a bit letting your kids camp separately and disrupt everyone else.   All in all we had a really good time and are looking forward to next year.
    • Haha, was about to say! I'd def put more stock in the exit poll than a sh*t joke on Bluesky. Thanks for panicking me though. 😁
    • f**k! "Susan Hall" Jesus. Ok, calm down.
