This is the kind of reaction I anticipated.

The guy I was speaking to is a mate of a mate that I worked with for a while. He thinks people, including me, don't like Nickelback because "it's cool to do that"...but he doesn't seem able to see that they are a talentless bunch that make awful songs.

I had the misfortune to catch their new single on Scuzz the other day...oh dear.

I like, ting tings, klaxons, foals, mystery jets, editors, arctic monkeys, kings of leon. The bands some people think its cool to dislike on these forums. I even like Scouting for Girls, Take That and McFly (they do pop, they want to do pop, they do it well).

I also like the bands that its not cool to dislike. RATM, Metallica, Muse, Radiohead.

I hate nickelback purely because they are shit. And pretend to be something they are not.

Bon Jovi were one of those bands played a lot in our house when we were growing up and I took my sister. Despite shite sound, Nickleback support and Jon Bon Jovi being full of hayfever and could hardly see let alone sing I still loved it. Not sure I'd pay to see them again but it was still great to see that bit of my childhood!

There is however no excuse for Nickleback anywhere...

    • Another one from Sheffield DocFest this weekend, Earth Wind & Fire docu, directed by Questlove. Sensational archive footage, contributions from band members, family, plus a lot of very big fans (Stevie, Lionel, Flea, the Obamas) and a warts n all assessment of the genius / flawed human being that was Maurice White. Also, I never realised he started out as a jazz drummer with Ramsay Lewis. Well worth a watch.
    • In a 6,800-word Substack essay, external, the Clacton MP said "anti-white racism was embedded into the state", and that legislation aimed at equality was a form of "social cleansing"   .https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cdjkd4mp93zo   The privileged white c**t hasn’t got a clue what racism is.

    • Got HBO Max to watch football so watched One Battle After Another which is a great film and deserves its awards and then rewatched Magnolia and that is a flipping amazing film...so much in it. (also rewatching Angels In America series which is also amazing).
