  1. The American band "Rex" has reunited, I really hope someone bring them to Europe.
  2. I would love a portishead-sigur ros-mbv-pulp-pj harvey-pavement edition or even better teleport to the 1990s, but I don't think it is going to happen! I could be wrong, but I'm not sure PJ Harvey has got many new and younger fans in the seven years since her last your. I perfectly agree she is a legend. I'm a big fan and if she is doing a full set that would be a big plus for me. But after 25 years of going to shows I've kind of accepted now that legends are usually a sub below a fairly insignificant band... or they play their own shows.
  3. PJ Harvey is playing 1000-sized venues on her tour. I love her but headliner?
  4. That would be three editions, with Porto. So the impact of having a 3rd one on top of Porto and Barcelona is a bit less. There is no need to speculate on ticket sales - we might never know if the Madrid edition does not happen. And then even if one has a measure of how large is a crowd, this doesn't say much about profit/deficit, as it depends on many other variables. I mean I have been to poorly attendend events so sometimes it is fairly obvious, but it also seems to be the rule rather than the exception around the world, so I don't think one has to be too dramatic about it.

    The churnups

I don't buy the argument that The churnups are secret because they have (small) shows to sell. Pulp having shows at London Apollo shouldn't change anything at all, and I really doubt the band management is worried that their shows might not sell out fast enough at this point in the career. The only reasons it might be secret is 1) for fun, 2) exclusive clauses (which is a valid point for the Foos), and 3) for media impact, where a band has not yet announced a come back or a world tour. > Foos inevitably going to headline in 24 or 25 Since 2024 has 2/3 woman headlining, and 2025 might as well be similar, I do not quite understand why Foos would inevitably headline when there are several other choices of white male rock bands (e.g. Blur, 1975, Pulp!). I understand they have a connection with the festival but they are not the overwhelming top request of the attendees. So I think this makes a secret set even more likely.

    The churnups

That's correct. And the churnups do not have to be the most popular band on the list. There was discussion about whether the churnups might outshine Arctic Monkeys, but the Spotify numbers show they shouldn't be too bothered.

    The churnups

I am honestly not sure I understand the feedback or if that is even related to my comment. I didn't grow up in the UK and never considered Pulp mega stars. Obviously Pulp are playing Finsbury Park and obviously they can be The Churnups. If everyone from all ages in the audience know their songs, and they could have replaced Arctic Monkeys as headliner, well then fine, I've learned something. I was just putting up numbers, which may be more relevant to the discussion than "it is 100% Foos, no it is 100% Pulp".

    The churnups

Yes, of course, especially for RHCP, but the numbers from Blur should give a valid reference point.

    The churnups

Monthly listeners on Spotify Foos 21.5M, Pulp 2.5M, Blur 11.2M, RHCP 29.9M, Royal Blood 3.6M, Artic Monkeys 44M I think Pulp are clearly an outlier in this category, they are the only band without massively known songs. Obviously RHCP are by far the least likely: it just doesn't feel right.

    The churnups

Is there any reason why would be given 1h15 of music? I think this rules out any artist who has less than about 3 albums.

    The churnups

I don't really buy this argument. Only one or maybe two of these male rock guitar bands can headline in 2024 or 2025, so it is not like all of them will have a slot in the next three years. 1975 have been ruled out per this thread, and are perhaps the only one who may headline in the next two years. I don't think the hints suggest anything, and it only depends on how much the organisers were willing to please attendees with the most requested band (Pulp) when they took the decision. I have no idea what is the answer.

    The churnups

The Friday TBA might be Belle & Sebastian, for medical reasons.

    The churnups

While Pulp would fit, the main issue is that I don't see much evidence that it is them, apart from people's expectations. In other words, naming them on every page of this thread does not make them more likely! While Foos seem likely based on their history, in my opinion this would be an odd choice and over-exposure.

    Blur

Annoying, no tickets but my two cards were cancelled by my bank and they are sending new ones. Surely this is no coincidence, and now I have to change all my payment details elsewhere.

    Blur

I almost bought these 2x balcony tickets but then I only need one and wasn't too keen re-selling a resale ticket. I admit I haven't really listened to the band in 28 years(!) but I know the older songs very well from my younger years!
  16. Where does this poor sale information comes from? People like to start rumours about sales and festivals being in deficit but there is rarely any evidence. Any day of the Primavera Barcelona lineup from this year would surely sell very well in London. Now of course, these bands might make more money by doing their own shows, so it is not clear at all they would all accept to do a fest in London.
  17. It is not possible to see all three without missing songs. I don't do partial sets, but I understand some people don't care about that.
  18. They do, with Shellac and Karate. Not too happy with the schedule, I'm interested in the smaller bands which are almost all playing 19-23h.
  19. West Midlands has Supersonic, Moseley Folk Fest & Godiva and some ~day events in Birmingham that look much like Dot To Dot, but nothing like the "big cities". I was at Summer Sundae & Lunar Festival a few times and a recurrent theme for all these events is a crowd often much smaller than capacity but dedicated attendance.
  20. Well other bands and fans of other bands don't have to pay the price for this. It is not clear they knew. Personally I wouldn't support any festival organisation inviting them but people have a choice.
  21. Why do their name keeps coming back? Headlining a festival should be a privilege, not something anyone should expect. I saw them in 2006-2010 and have several LPs but right now most people would 100 times prefer to see some up and coming artist than this creepy guy. Fans can go see them at their own shows if they want. At most jobs you only have chance, why would this be different.
  22. I was going to say the same. I also had never heard of Jungle before. But it only shows my age and the fact that these acts are not normally headlining relevant festivals otherwise I think I would have noticed their names. I'm not complaining, I'm totally neutral about a band I've never heard about, which is better than a band I don't like!
  23. Echo and the Bunnymen, Gary Numan, Primal Scream, Public Service Broadcasting have played almost everywhere, every year in the UK. There are some decent bands on that lineup but it is just very safe, very English and unimaginative.
  24. Why does everyone think this band is playing?
  25. I do wonder why people here (and possibly APE) insist on big headliners? If they returned to the smaller capacity and headliners of the Field Day era, I'd be very happy! However, in the Field Day era they had a strong undercard shared with Primavera, and now that has become patchy as well.
