  1. I did this in 2008 and it said I walked 60 miles between THursday and Monday. I could well believe it because my feet were dead at the end! When you think how far it is from the Pyramid to the Other Stage (1/2 mile?) or JP stage (600m?) and the Park Stage (800m?) and how many times you go back and forth between the stages during the course of the day, and then off to Shangri La or the stone circle in the evening (must be a good mile from the Pyramid), then its easy to see how far you walk over the weekend

  2. I am wondering if this is some sort of publicity stunt, so tommy, you started this thread a couple of days ago, so the headliners must mow be confirmed. Who are they. The Stones are shit by the way, all teeth and lips

  3. I think you've misunderstood me; I'm nogt saying that all, most or indeed many of the headliners were poor. They weren't. That said, tehre have been a number in the 7 years that I've been who couldn't be described as huge. I gave the examples of Basement Jaxx and Gorillaz, other people may suggest others.

2009 was indeed a relatively strong year (ME had wanted Neil Young for a long time) but it's hard to say that the majority of headline acts are "huge" or unique to Glasto. They're not.

  4. I think the reasons festivals arent selling out this year is due to there not being much decent music around at the moment. It will come back again soon but this year there wasn't much exciting music around this year

Also due to thiis, the festivals need to keep innovating each year, and provide other things to do at the festival when the music isnt that greAt. Reading and V don't do that, they rely on the music to sell tickets which is why Reading especially has struggled this year. Glasto is the best innovator, the park stage a few years back, loads of secret stuff, and shangri la, Arcadia, etc more recently. Saying that they still need to keep their eyes on the ball because I think Shangri la and Arcadia both have a limited shelf life, unless they continue to develop these, or other new areas

Latitude relied originally on the strength of it's music to sell tickets in it's earlier days, but then focussed more on the other areas, especially comedy to see tickets. Saying that, to only have 1000 tickets unsold with a relatively low profile music line up (although still good IMO) is a real credit to them

  5. Fair point! I was trying to provide areas where I think things could be looked at. Not so much slagging off areas, but positively identifying areas which could be looked at in the next 2 years which could further enhance the Glasto experience.. I

.. But I think you knew that already! ;)

  6. Replace the Rabbit Hole. I hate to say it, but I attempted to get in it twice only for it to be shut down for health and safety and the 2nd time massive queues. It's lost the je ne sais quoi that made it special. The site could do with one or two more genuine surprises.

Not much else, which says a lot for the festival. Just incredible. I went to V and could have rattled off a long list of it's faults.

  7. The "Other Stage" is its identity, I love it

Everyone knows what it is, its as legendary as the Pyramid stage, please don't change it, it needs no more of an identiyy as it already has

How many times have you heard of legendary Other Stage sets, the Flaming Lips on the OTher Stage in 2010 for example. Kasabian in 2005 (imo)

It just works as it is

    Leave well alone please!

  8. Right, firstly no negativity here please, this is meant to be a positive thread!

I have read a few great threads in the last couple of weeks about what didn't quite work this year and what needs to be looked at. So, the Eavii have two years to have a long look at things and make a few changes, to make 2013 something really special. What needs to be changed? The areas I think that need to be looked at again are:

    1. The Dance Village - an excellent thread on this elsewhere, I agree, it doesn't quite work at the moment, not much atmosphere, more of a walk throught to other stages, lots of sound bleeding between the stages. Too many stages. I think they either need to move this area, provide a theme, move some stages to the middle of the ares so its not such a no mans land in the middle? Needs more of a character / identity all of its own. Perhaps fewer DJ sets? Saying that Oxlyers was my favourite stage this year, some great stuff there!

    2. Arcadia/Shangi La, etc - this didnt quite work for me this year, it was too far away so we, like lots of others, ended up leaving the main stages to get there before the queues started which is'nt great as far as the headline acts are concerned. I am not sure what the answer is really, and even bigger area than this year? Put Acadia somwhere different because a lot of peeple go just for the Arcadia show and are less bothered with the Block9, Shangri La stuff? Swap the Acoustic area with Arcadia maybe?

    3. Arcadia - the wonder wasn't there for me this year, they need to keep this fresh and put new things there, a big fire explosion is only impressive so many times, and I cant remember the lightning-rod people there this year, although I may have missed them. Appreciate that the weather didn't help this year but the atmosphere wasn't quite up to previous years imo. Always needs something new to keep the area alive

    4. Park stage - this depends on whether they continue to get such high profile special quests as this year. It was a bit mental this year because the acts were so big, if this continues then they need to do something such as make the hill more of an official area to watch bands, or put these bands on soewhere bigger such as West Holts at 10am?!

    5. Overcrowding - didn't really notice this until the Sunday when they (rightly) let the locals in. It was so overcrowded, I couldnt believe how rammed it was for Paul Simon - we tried to go from the top of the Pyramid stage across to JP, but just couldn't, the walkway was dangerously clogged up.

    6. Chairs - similar to above, there just seemed loads more this year than previous, blocking up walkways, and a lot of the people with chairs refused to move at all. May need to ban them, or at least allow them in certain areas only. Only noticed this as being a real problem at the Pyramid. I dont have a problem with chairs themselves - JP seemed OK - they just need to be managed properly

    7. Secret sets - make these secret again, don't tell people the time or location of these in advance. Everyone knew about Pulp and Radiohead this year so they weren't really secret sets. I would love to have seen Mumford in Strummerville, and really enjoyed Metronomy in the Crows Nest, that's a real surprise set, the way it should be!

What do you think needs to be looked at. Dont get me wrong I still love the festival, but it would be good if they looked at some bits again over the next couple of years!

  9. Latitude is good fun even if you do not like the music (which I do!) - i think there is probably a lot of music you would like if you checked Youtube for some of the acts. The festival does have some very good comedy, poetry, literature and general randomness which I like. Saying that the comedy tents are usually very popular and very full

Its quite a trek from Cumbria to (near) Southwold! A good 5-6 hour drive I would have thought (I live in Norfolk so not too far for me!) so you may want to try a smaller festival near you this year to see how you get on

    Good luck anyway!

  10. Latitude would be a good first festival for you, not too busy, chilled out vibe, lots of kids and families and not too big so you won't get lost. Also have good non-music stuff such as an excelllent comedy lineup, poetry, literature, etc. Next one is in 10 days time, and there are still camping tickets available!

Would be a good festival to see how you feel about it. Glasto is frankly enormous and rammed nearly everywhere you go so maybe better to try a smaller festival first to see how you get on with smaller crowds. The size can sometimes be overwhelming at first, I would imagine even more so to someone who suffers from anxiety. Saying that there are always quieter places to go, the green fields etc to get away from it

  11. I have been to Glasto for a few years and have never experienced any trouble at all, we have not camped in Pennards before because by the time we get there the site is already 95% full, so we end up in Pylon Ground, Wicket Ground, etc.

We always take 'man bags' with us wherever we go, to put the valuables in (beer, camera, cash, tickets ,beer, keys, beer, etc) and leave the tent open. If anyone wants to rummge through my crusty cacks then they are more than welcome to - the last laugh is on me knowing some scumbag has dirtied themselves on my solied and sweaty undergarments. :D

The golden rule is buy cheap clothes/sleeping bags and take only stuff you wouldnt be too bothered about losing or getting dirty

If they want to nick anything else then they can, its saves me from carrying it back to the car, and will be sweaty and stinky anyway

    Scumbags
