  1. Loved these last weekend, anyone else enjoy them? I had no idea where they were from and nearly pissed myself when they played two songs from Norfokk! My home county, "... won't your come down to Yarmouth town..." and "... Fakenham fayre..."

    Proper folk! Great stuff!

They are on the red button now, check them out.....

  2. I was arguing the same sort of thing over the weekend. huge artists, I mean artists in the U2/Springsteen category are pretty much on a hiding to nothing with this kind of gig. They've only played to their own audiences for a long time, and so they have a rep of being astonishing live. This builds up people's expectations to such a degree that neutral members of the audience will inevitable feel a little disapointed. I think it's an inherent problem for bands of this size, and to be absolutely honest, I don't really understand why these bands agree to do it, they can never 'win', best they'll get is a score draw.

  3. I said on another thread a few months back that if U2 played a stripped down set without all the gubbins you get on their tours then it could be one of the greatest Glasto moments ever.

Will they did play a stripped down set, they did play loads of old stuff, and I did love their performance. But "one of the greatese moments ever" - not really. Not too sure why. I think I expected too much having seen them around 20 years ago! Looking at Bono made me see that they aren't spring chickens anymore - he is 51 years old ffs!, his voice isnt as good as it was and there isnt quite the energy of 20-30 years ago, well what did I expect at 51!

I do not think it was the weather, I do not think it was the set list (which I think was great, except for the ommission of 40), I think its just that I was longing for what they were like in the 80s and early 90s

Don't get me wrong, I still loved their set, but I think my expectations were just too high

  4. I think they should only have used the long route once it was full. On some nights we went straight in having walked the long route to get there, it seems a bit pointless. I think they should have kept the exit routes open until the place was full and once full, then made people use the long route. Just seems very long

  5. I have read a lot a criticism of U2s performance last Friday. I loved it and the more I watch the BBC coverage the more I loved it. I love U2's music, mainly there stuff up to Joshua tree + Achtung Baby. I saw them on their zooropa tour in the early 90's but haven't seen them since, so can't say I am an obsessive fan. I just didn't rate their later albums nor their over production of their performances (albeit the zooropa tour was also overproduced but I was young!)

Saying that I loved their performance last Friday, they did well in bad weather and with less nonsense going on around them

I am really interested to hear what the true U2 obsessives made of their performance last week?

    Digi, where are you?!

  6. i think the special guests/secret bars etc have come to the end of their usefulness...

a special guest everyone knows about is pointless as is a secret tunnel that everyone knows about(rabbit hole was packed all the time and people only wanted in their cos its a'secret')

i think the whole thing needs a massive re-think..

  7. I think it's probably unlikely that you would get special guests of that magnitude normally, they haven't usually been that big

Secret set should really be at a secret time and secret location, say the crows nest, the bandstand or somewhere in shangri la early morning or late at night. That would be special (if anyone turns up!) announce it 15 minutes before they are due on

Just look at the special guest threads on here before the festival, we all thought it would be someone big so we all turned up just in case

  8. Suede is the rumour going round worthy farm today according to other threads. Seems plausible, Emily said a potential headliner, not sure if they fit the bill, although they are headlining latitude. 15 years ago maybe, 2011, not so sure

  9. Well, well, well. This is the first year I've contributed a few posts but always been an avid follower. I feel it's been a long round with maaaaaaany a winding turn!

It's been a blast and our positivity is inspirational, long may this continue through the awesome days ahead. We have bloody earned this party so let's go enjoy and have a blast. Work has finished for me now and I'm so excited a little bit of pee might come out!

    See you all there.

    Peace

  10. Last year I had the orange Glastonav app on both my mobile phone and (business - dont tell anyone!) Blackberry. My relativey new phone is not too old for this years Orange app, but does anyone know if the there is an Orange app this year (or any other decent Glsto apps) for Blackberries). I cannot see anything on the Orange web site for it?

Assuming not, I have now downloaded Twatter to my Blackberry, so can anyone recommend any decent twatter accounts to follow during the festival to keep up to date with Glasto related news / secret sets. I am new to Twatter so please be gentle with me!

  11. I think a lot of the 'pop festival' criticims are criticisms of the current state of music these days rather than a critism of Glastonbury itself. Glasto still tries to have a very diverse line up each year, but there aren't a lot of decent non-pop music around these days. But what there is, Glasto does try to get, as opposed to just following the current crop of mainstream / manufactured / Radio 1 play list type bands. Just look at how pants the V line-up this year, full of Radio 1 playlist tripe and Reality TV inspired bands. Horrible stuff

Music is is bit of a lull at the moment, thats not Glasto's fault, and I am sure it will come back again some day

.. and in the meantime, the Eaviss continue to develop new, interesting and exciting parts to their festival - the Park a few years ago, and the recent explosion in the size and scale of the Shangri La / Unfairground / Block 9 / Arcadia areas. I think they are pioneers in these sorts of things, others (will) follow where they lead, so well done the Eaviss, your festival is still the bench mark which all other festivals try (and fail) to follow :)

  12. You cant see a lot from the photos, you want to take a look at the worthyfm videos, you can see there a lot of water and mud there already.

Mud or no mud, I don't care. I will be at Glastonbury again having the time of my life. The mud won't change that. Bring it on!
