  1. The only crumb of comfort I can give is that it looks like this year will be one of the dullest years for music I can remember (in my opinion!) so it is one of the best years not to have a Glasto (if they need to have a fallow year at all) Lets get this fallow year over and done with and then we can all look forward to another 6 years of Glastos without a gap!

  2. Can I just add that I think the size of the tent does not matter. There always seems plenty of space to camp if you go in the right direction. The last couple of years we got there late thursday afternoon and found loads of space in the pylon ground. And it is one of the closest places to get to the JP and Dance Village. And its only a couple of minutes from gate A. And we parked somewhere which was only a 5 minutes walk from gate A. And it took only around 20 minutes to get out Monday morning. I assume we have been lucky the last couple of years. There was loads of space for big tents and there was still loads of space throughout the weekend. A great spot to camp

  3. With all due respect you have no idea what you are talking about. When we were 40 and 42 we happily camped in a tiny 3 man tent on rollmats! It is a sad and undeniable fact that for many of us a lot of ageing goes on between 40 and 50. How well the joints (no pun intended) hold up will vary greatly from one person to another, but I suppose we are about middling - some people do worse than us and some better..

The arthritus kicking in in my knees means that i can no longer crawl in and out of a little tent and we need one we can stand up in. His back no longer takes too kindly to dragging that tent and our other stuff on the trolley across the site. That said, we coped well until last year when we had to drag it across mud, and we'd probably be alright in good conditions again but good conditions cannot be guaranteed.

Last time it did wreck Glastonbury for us because our bodies don't bounce back like they did even 5 years ago - but we still want to do Glastonbury because we love it. Some time in the next 10/15/20 years this will be you too - sorry!

The truth is, I can't do what I used to do when i was 40, let alone 18 or 25! I have to accept that and either decide I am too old to do it at all, or find another way. Just as we did when we changed our little 3 man tent for a stand up 5 man tent, now we have to accept that we are the campervan people.

  4. Whats going on here, I am clearly a pensioner now at 40, but one thing I never give any consideration to each year is how I get my stuff to my pitch. An hour or two of pain is nothing compared with the four days of pure joy I know i will have in the following four days. FFS just take you time, stop loads of times, have a few beers whilst getting to your pitch. If getting to the camping areas is a real concern to you then you are completely missing the point, a bit of pain justifies the end. Chill out everybody, it's not a race to get to the best pitch, the idea is to have the greatest most relaxiing time of your year.... Pleaee....

  5. I dont mind camping and would happily put the tent up next to the smallest clapped out vehicle that theyll allow in the campervan field. I just cant bear the thought of dragging all our kit across mud again. At 47 I can till camp, but i can't lug stuff anymore. Weve decided we can still camp at smaller fests but we have to finally give up on camping at Glastonbury - my knees and his back will take no more of car park to campsite hell!

  6. 1. Elbow - Queens Head 2008. Best gig I have ever been to, Lots of tears of emotion in the tent that evening. Played a lot of older stuff, the greatest bank in the greatest setting on earth

    2. M83 - JP 2005 - never heard of them before and I remember hearing their smoky electronic chords when walking past, went in and absolutely loved them. Finding bands you havent heard of before is a real highlight of Glasto for me, you don't get it as much as other festivals because they arent as big or diverse

    3. Holy Fuck - JP 2008. Again, never heard them before and I remmber sitting outside the JP on the Saturday pm with the worst hangover in the history of the planet (one oif those when you think you are going to die so you just want to hide in a hole and sleep through it). Awesome stuff, really cured my hangover and have loved them every since

    4. When I finally have pitched the tent up - every year, and sit back on a chair looking over the site with a beer. The excitement and aniticpation of whats to come, and at the same time the feeling of calm and contentment you cannot expereince anywhere else

    5. First time I experienced Shangi La and Arcadia. That was an incredible experience the first time

6 (sorry). Seeing the confirmattion screen that the order has been processed on T day. The excitement builds from that point on, all the way until the following June!

  7. I can't see a rapper headlining the other stage, has it ever happened before? Rappers are quite mainstream these days and I can't imagine the mainstream crowd venturing over to the other stage, they might not even know such a stag exists!

Rappers on the pyramid is fine, that's where their fans will be. Can't see it working on the other stage though

  8. I am not sure about Stone Roses, I think they will burn out before then. I can see them headlining loads of festivals next year, and unless they release some really good new stuff next year, then I think the novelty may have warn off by 2013. I can't see them headlining Glasto in 2013 having headlined all the other festivals the year before. I suspect they may call it a day after the festival season next year

  9. When the music scene is a bit lean, as it seems to be at the moment, then all festivals need to up their game to get the punters in - they cant rely on the headliners any more to get people through the gates. All festivals need a unique selling point and need to continually develop to attract the paying punters in. Glasto always moves forward each year (The Park, Shangri La, Arcadia, etc) which is it continutes to sell out. I wonder how the other big festivals, which seem to rely purely on line up (V, Reading, etc.) will get on next year when is the music scene is as it is now, they have used up most of the headliners between them and there doesnt seem to be much new music around the corner. I suspect they will become even more 'poppy' (like V was this year) to suck in the younger crowd. A horrible thought!

  10. I am not sure if the quiteness of these boards is anything to do with the popularity of festivals generally. I would image 90% of the people who use these boards love festivals and have no intention of not going. The casual festival goers are the ones who stop going, and I suspect they have never heard of efestivals let alone use these forums (dont take offence Neil!)

I would be interested if Neil had any stats on how many threads/posts/views there were on the the Glasto forum this June compared with the previous June's? I suspect it might be getting higher each year. Also I would be interested to hear if traffic volumes are holding up for the other festivals who have a festival next year like Reading and V? Are they less than they were last October?

A few good rumours would soon liven the boards up a bit! I think thas a part of the problem, there isnt a lot of new decent music around at the moment for people to get excited about. Whether that trasnsfers to reduced sales of tickets next year only time will tell. I suspect it might next year

  11. It's Tumbleweed time on the glasto forums, I would imagine it happens every time there is a fallow year because the next Glasto is so far away. If it was 1st November any other year then it would be a lot busier because you would have the annual "the ticketing system is so unfair" from the ones who didn't get a ticket, and then a multitude of rumour threads from everyone who did get e ticket and are getting very excited already! If I had got a ticket this time next year I know I would already be getting excited and would be checking the forums more often
