  1. Can confirm. My memory is fuzzy but don't think the crowd reached the soundstage and there was plenty of space. Interesting show though
  2. Got a day working from home so using it responsibly to start with the organising and packing. Looks like I'm pretty much sorted apart from waiting on a few 'deliveries' so I might actually be fully packed and ready to go before the monday. I don't think I've ever been this organised
  3. It certainly appears that way so no need to panic
  4. I've had to do the walk from Gate A/D to B a few times and it's a mission. You've got the choice of taking a longer (but easier) route, going over rough terrain and having to constantly sweet talk every steward you come across as you'll most likely be walking in parts of the site that are restricted to the locals / festival access routes.
  5. Nice! Yeah my mate also lives in Hamburg so was introduced to their rock and roll football when I visited him and instantly fell in love with the place. I haven't been in so long though. Is the Reeperbahn still a wonderfully depraved den of fun?

    Rum Anyone

It is fantastic, tastes like the banana sweets and gets you special kind of drink but the next day, you definitely know you've been bumbu'd As for mixers, I usually get cold cans from food stalls. Ginger ale / beer is great but gives me heartburn after a while so your mileage may vary. Fruit juices are also a winner
  7. The run is far from ideal with showers looking to occur most days. The good thing is that the worst of the rain appears to miss the site so mainly get light showers. Temps are lower than I'd like but still in a reasonable range.
  8. Seeing a FC St Pauli shirt never fails to raise a smile. They're about as left wing / punk as you can get from a football club. Football would be much better if more teams followed St Pauli's way
  9. I would love to say that I will be sensible enough to hold off until I am fully set up before having a drink but I'm not and my frozen margarita cocktail box will only stay frozen for so long. I am already looking forward to the heat stroke / exhaustion that Mrs Shanks is going to get and the inevitable argument that follows
  10. The last run he posted was far better than the previous. Granted there was rain on the monday and infrequent showers up to thursday, but pretty much dry after that. Combined with temps of over 21c, there is nothing to worry about.
  11. yup. The ensembles are looking better and better each day and not having the massive outliers turn up so it's all coming up Millhouse
  12. And the headliner thread for the 2024 festival was created a good 12 months before we'll find out a single headliner. People love their speculation.
  13. However the amount of rain forecast has reduced. The current runs don't have enough rain to be concerning. Despite what the NFR NFC people say, the site can cope with some rain and depending on the timing or intensity of it, can happen without an impact to the ground
  14. hopefully at this time I'll be finishing putting up the tents and having a celebratory drink before mentally and physically preparing myself for the second run. It's getting very real.
  15. they might not be scorchio temps but are definitely warm and not too hot for the more heat sensitive. Ideal if you ask me
  16. bought a waterproof poncho as an offering to the weather gods and found my seel skinz that have kept my feet dry every festival I've took them to. Granted that was 2019 and 2022 so as far as I'm concerned, they are extremely water repellent.
  17. technically yes it is possible but it is a big trek that could be avoided by all parking on the same side or meeting up when you get through the gates
  18. That beautiful moment after hours of queuing, carrying the world on your back and setting up your tent where you can finally sit down, crack open a drink and start to relax knowing that you've arrived home.
  19. Around that though does include performers as well. Pre 2013, the staff / artist allocation was around 30k, so probably goes some way to explain why it feels a lot busier when the public tickets have only increased by 7k in that time. It's difficult though, a lot of those volunteers are so important for the smooth running of the festival and deserve to have some time off to enjoy themselves when they have taken time out of their lives to help make Glastonbury happen but it is clear that the increase has had an impact so I wouldn't be surprised if this gets refined somewhat. Outside of increasing the capacity of the site, I'm not sure if there is a way that pleases everyone while maintaining the same level of staffing / safety.
  20. Smallest: Jon Hopkins - WH 2019. Got pretty much to the barriers without trying. I think the field filled a bit more as the gig went on but was on the quiet side. I was bouncing though so it's all good. Roisin Murphy - WH 2022. Had acres of space to dance in. Hardly surprising when she was going against a Beatle. No regrets. Largest: Every thursday at Stonebridge. Don't think I've ever been there on a thursday and it not get shut down at some point. Beans on Toast on Greenpeace in 2019 was something else.
  21. I'd recommend attaching an outboard motor and some flotation tanks if the monday rain doesn't turn out to be a massive outlier.
  22. tbf by tuesday night the rain has pretty much cleared so the tuesday queue crew should be dry
  23. I wouldn't go that far. Monday before gates open is awful and tuesday has a few showers about but after that it's looking alright
  24. I've got a selection of loud Hawiian / mushroom themed shirts, a few pairs of shorts, t-shirts and most importantly of all, my purple velvet party jacket that has been to every Glastonbury. Depending on the weather, I may throw in a woolly and/or waterproof poncho and an extra hoody. high tops and boots. Wellies left in the car. Sorted.
  25. It's the best time for a downpour compared to it happening during the festival. With how dry the site is, unless it's biblically heavy and lasts for most of the day, it'll be fine. The major walkways will get muddy but the site would dry out quick enough
