The Shed Seven album is good. How come you found it surprising?
Not a band I've generally been drawn to much beyond singles, didn't expect a full album to hold my attention.

Another week it was so rough the shelves in the off license collapsed and the whole deck was drenched in glass and booze. The canteen and restaurants were covered in food and smashed plates. All of the decks were covered in passengers vomit. 3 hours of people screeching like gibbons everytime the ship hit a big wave. The toilets were knocked about so badly the stench of urine and faeces permeated throughout the entire ship and if people didnt flush, their turds ended up skidding back and forward across the floor in a sea of steaming piss.
Sounds like at least one of the pubs I used to drink in back home

Too long and disjointed, proper cringe rainbow colour lyrics. Last couple of minutes are OK.
Yeah, the rainbow colours bit wasn't a highlight 😂

Had to struggle to think of what gigs I went to, 2023 was a bit of a blur for various reasons. Had to go back into my ticket purchases to remind myself, and depressingly I seem to recall incredibly little of Glastonbury 😞
Having a stab at 5 instead:
Mogwai - Brighton Dome
Death Cab For Cutie - Brighton Dome
Max Richter - Park (shout to @bennyhana22 and @Titters for taking me to that one)
Teskey Brothers - Other (ditto to @Gnomicide)
Dub Pistols - Concorde 2Not quite a gig so it gets an honourable mention, but finally saw Wheel Of Four Tunes on Sensation Seekers and it was an absolute joy.
Honourable mentions for pleasant surprises to Gwenno on Park and Dylan (not that one) at Victorious.

The Gallagher X Squire single is decent, will go down well.
Was pleasantly surprised by that on 6Music this morning. Needs a couple more listens

Kicking off the year with a new one from Worthing indie band Moonlight Parade

Been a fairly quiet year for me, nothing to do with the music just not been massively into listening to new stuff. Very much found comfort in the familiar.
Of the stuff I have listened to, #1 of the year is undoubtedly Dreamer by Nabihah Iqbal. Had that on loop quite a bit.
Honourable mentions in no particular order:
The Lottery Winners - Anxiety Replacement Therapy
Everything But The Girl - Fuse
Temples - Exotico
M83 - Fantasy
GoGo Penguin - Everything Is Going To Be OK
The Hold Steady - The Price Of Progress
CVC - Get Real
Jessie Ware - That! Feels Good!
We Are Scientists - Lobes -
Happy Christmas all

don't think elvis has any bookings for june yet?
surely this is just the most tedious way of saying "book my favourite band".
As opposed to just being plain tedious

Is it removing Craig Finns face and wearing it on your face? 😀
Don't give him ideas.
I might have to join him for THS Camden gig next year and just steer him away from backstage...

No skin in the game this year, but my abiding memory of the 2010 Sunday debacle was leaving at half time purely because it was absolutely ruining everyone's (and by extension my) mood. Sure, if Eng win a game then everyone's in a good mood. But the mood in that field during the Germany game was just...depressing. Blazing sun on a glorious Sunday afternoon at Glastonbury, and all I could see were angry unhappy people.
The gamble's not worth it for me.
My shift to the London Community Gospel Choir on the Horlicks Stage was a far better use of my time.

Paradise Lost in London last night.
I got a free ticket for this so figured I'd go along on something of a nostalgia trip - the last time I saw both these bands live was 31 years ago.
My Dying Bride: actually really enjoyed them, the most impressive thing was that Aaron's vocals were really amazing, sounded just as good now as all those years ago. yeah, enjoyed their set.
Paradise Lost: well, let me just say I got what I expected.
my thoughts on PL go something like this...
Lost Paradise - one of the greatest albums of all time
Gothic - at the time I loved it, but in hindsight I can't stand it as it pretty much invented crappy symphonic metal
Shades of God - for some reason at this point the decided they wanted to be Metallica
Icon - this is what I refer to as their "Nickelback" period (obviously I didn't think that at the time as it pre-dates Nickelback by some years, but I do find it funny how they ended up sounding like them and Nick Holmes even ended up looking like Chad Kroeger).
after that I lost interest and I don't believe I have heard anything they made after that.
so anyway - the gig last night was "30 years of Icon" - which is somewhat unfortunate seeing as Icon is sh*t.
but the real problem I think is that they are just so BORING.
every song sounds, literally, the same. there is zero variation - same tempo, same structure, I think even same chord progressions and same lead parts.
I was hoping for maybe one song from the first album, but alas.
everyone on stage looked bored too (well, except the guitarist on the right - to be fair he looked like he was having a great time).
I will say though, that I was obviously in a minority of one - the show was sold out and it looked like everyone else was absolutely loving it, so fair play, thats great - I just really don't understand what there was to get excited about!
but I guess I'm just a miserable old bastard.
so, at the start of this I said I got what I expected - I expected to see Nickelback, and I saw Nickelback... only far less interesting (yup, I've seen NB too for some reason).
also - £7.14 for a CAN of Carlsberg - I f**king hate the modern world.
Being a miserable old bastard would feel like the perfect fit for a Paradise Lost / My Dying Bride gig 😄
Two names I haven't heard in ages
