  1. I use Deezer aswell! Seems everyone else uses Spotify on here.

If you make a good Deezer playlist feel free to post it up on here.

Good's a subjective term, so I'm making no promise of quality! But once I've finished it off this weekend I'll stick it up. It's definitely going to be long, up to M so far and it's 174 songs!

  2. I can make a decision weeks in advance based on any number of the factors listed above. But ultimately it just comes down to what I fancy on the day.

This. Very definitely this. Still getting abuse from a couple of mates from 2010 when I decided I really wasn't in the mood for Stevie Wonder and buggered off to watch Levellers close out The Glade. When it came to it I couldn't think of any band I'd rather see to finish Glastonbury, despite the fact that I will never again get a chance to see SW.

  3. Twitter has a built-in function which can forward all tweets from any accounts you choose to your mobile as texts. If you log in and go to the Twitter settings page and then select 'Mobile' in the menu on the left, you can add a mobile phone number to your twitter account. I think you have to confirm it somehow (I did this a year ago, and can't remember) at which point in the 'Mobile' settings section you get a whole new set of options, including 'Tweets from people you've enabled for mobile notifications'. If that option is ticked, then all you need to do is go to the twitter account you want texts from (The Official Glastonbury account or secretglasto for example), click the gear icon next to the Follow/Following button at the top, and click 'Turn On Mobile Notifications'.

After all that, every tweet from the accounts you have enabled in this way will be sent as a text to your phone. It's free (unless you have to pay your mobile network to recieve texts) and incredibly useful, especially for those of us without a smartphone.

That's a genius bit of advice - investing (?!) in a dirt cheap PAYG handset for the week, so getting these alerts by SMS instead of twitter will be perfect. You're a gentleman sir.

  4. Working through the rumour / confirmed list, probably not new to some but new for me! Bard, Circa Waves (they'll be brilliant if the weather's right), Father John Misty and Gregory Porter. And I know I'm about 2 decades behind on these two, but Belle & Sebastian and Super Furry Animals!

  5. Just going to make a note of this info just in case shade is in short supply again in June...

I'll not lie, it wasn't all bad. Was certainly preferable to sunstroke. And it was right next to the wood-fired pizza stand!

  6. First time in 5 years?! We're in for another 2010 scorcher!

Don't know how I feel about that if I'm honest. I sat through a 2hr lecture in the Green Fields on eco-funerals because it was the only place we could find in the shade!

  7. I can guess the answer to this question on this thread, but how good are SFA live? Never seen them, and bizarrely I managed to pretty much miss them during the 90s and beyond, so only know a couple of songs. Not a lot exciting me on the big stages at the moment, so I'm determined to head off into the distance for once!

Working through their discography at the moment, and I do like what I'm hearing

  8. This is only my fourth time, so I'm still learning as well! But these are the main ones I have picked up.

Don't be shy! If you see something interesting going on, wander over and have a look. I spent my first trip to Glastonbury being very English about it all and walked past a few things that looked really good, just because I didn't really have confidence to go and get involved!

Make sure you know where your tent is. Identify the nearest easy to find landmark and work from there.

Take some time on Wednesday and Thursday to walk between the stages so you know the routes and how long it takes. If you're enjoying a band on West Holts and want to get to the John Peel Stage for another band that starts in 5 minutes, you'll be running. And you really don't want to do that!

If you really want to experience it, don't just stay on the main stages (Pyramid Stage, Other Stage). Take the time to go and look at Avalon, The Park, the Circus Field, Gully etc, and pop your head into some of the smaller tents / stages. You'll find some really good stuff going on! This is the link to the list of areas and stages on the main website http://www.glastonburyfestivals.co.uk/areas/

If you fancy a late night, there is plenty going on. Everyone will head for the South East Corner where all of the weird stuff happens, but it does get very crowded! There will be things happening all over the festival well into the night, so that's not your only option.

And like everyone else has said, don't get too hung up on planning which bands you're going to see. Half the fun is in wandering around and listening to music you'd never normally hear, and setting yourself a timetable takes a lot of enjoyment out of it.

    Enjoy!

EDIT: In the name of all that is holy and good in this world, do not end up camping near the toilets. Especially the long drops (they're the big green metal cages). You might think it's useful to be close when you need the loo; it's really not. And try to get up on higher ground if you can, just a bit better if it gets wet.

  9. Can never remember the name, but if you like veggie there's an awesome falafel stand near West Holts. Their signature one has something like 14 ingredients in the salad, and it's bloody lovely. I hit it at least 3 times over the week.
