    2024 Headliners

The one song from the album they're not playing live... I agree it is the highlight of the album, which I rate as good. Thing is, it is a modern pop record, not an early-noughties indie album, and is written to be played in stadia where it largely works. If people are still hankering for AROBTTH pt 2, they can listen to X&Y. If they want something more experimental and adventurous, they can listen to Everyday Life (also sadly unrepresented on the current tour - they really should include Orphans, Champion of the World and Daddy).

Given the scale of the show, and the enforced break due to the pandemic, I expect there is an enthusiasm from the band (and indeed the fans) to play more. And I'm sure the financial benefits don't hurt. I saw the show last year and loved it, but ducked out this year as it seemed too much of a repeat. But by next summer, I think my appetite will be back. Nice if they mixed up the setlist a bit more by then of course.

    2024 Stage Predictions

Tasty... Although I'd hope they don't put synth-pop pioneers Depeche Mode up against synth-pop pioneers Kraftwerk...
  4. The Bon Jovi footage is heart-breaking. If you have fond memories of him and the band, don't watch it... It was funny when it was that Puddle of Mudd Twatt - I feel bad for laughing now.

I like it better when you're going on about Bad Bunny.

With two original members, they are as much Queen as the Stones are the Stones, or The Who are The Who… Both bands that don’t get the same level of stick for carrying on after losing members.
  7. PG maybe, but he doesn’t do Genesis songs, and Kate Bush ain’t playing Glastonbury.
  8. While I certainly want to see newer acts getting the bump, I also want to see established acts that have never performed before take the stage. There's room for Dua Lipa and Depeche Mode on the same line-up. As well as diversity of gender and race, we should also strive for diversity of sound... pop, rock, r&b, hiphop all have a place there and I like to see headliners that reflect that as much as possible. This year was certainly too 'rock', but going 100% pop isn't much better. 2022 really felt like a great balance.

Kate Bush is never playing Glastonbury Nicks and Cher are surely legends if they play. Halsey not big enough. I think a move toward KPop would likely start with an act lower down the line-up to test the waters, not an outright headliner. Pink is big enough, but I just don't see it tbh. Weird because she obviously can do BST and I can totally see her headlining IOW for example.

Josh Homme wants a word... I'm curious as to what Healy has actually done on stage that should prevent 1975 from performing. I'm aware of the Nazi salute which was done in the context of a lyric and clearly not meant sincerely. And although the kissing fans / ID thing is sleazy, it's not as sleazy as kissing under-age fans. Am I missing anything else? It's not cool and he should apologise, but I get the feeling that a lot of the outrage is coming from people who already don't like him. If a more beloved artist did this, the response would be 'they made a mistake, but we forgive them...'

    The 1975

Of course if offered the gig, they'd take it, but a bit poor on R+Ls front to not give the leg up to another artist. Are they getting as limited in their pool of headliners as Download have been for years?

Other than that the tour is continuing into next year, which was no real surprise. It will depend on their summer plans which would either be a US leg, or European festivals. Obviously, only one of those would suggest Glastonbury a possibility.
  13. Macca played Ob La Di Ob la da! Come at me!
  14. Not a deal-breaker as far as the festival is concerned....
  15. Pearl Jam Depeche Mode Tom Waits Tears For Fears Chris Rea Mark Knopfler / Dire Straits Steven Wilson / Porcupine Tree Iron Maiden Opeth Pat Metheny Sade Matteo Mancuso Goose Jean-Michel Jarre Kraftwerk For starters...
  16. Yeah, everybody there looked like they were having a terrible time. And it was the Arctic Monkeys....
  17. Reading + Leeds have a no flag policy and by the looks of things here, it's adhered to.

Er... no. Any band that can sell out Twickenham is headline or nothing.

Erm... Glastonbury footage is paywalled. Last time I checked, it's £159 a year to access it... (bar the odd song on youtube, a fraction of what was recorded)

    The 1975

Wouldn't exactly call it a stench, more a light whiff... Josh Homme kicked a woman in the face for goodness sake. Axl Rose sang 'Absurd' on the farm. Healy being a twat is small time in comparison.
  21. As do I. Enjoyed an hour or so of Yacht Rock in one of the bars at about 1am on Monday morning. Certainly was more popular than the anonymous beats they had on before.
  22. Considering Astley is not a Legend but a one hit wonder from the eighties who's done f**k all since, that seems very plausible.
  23. This thread is discussing the 'Legend' spot, not the 'one hit wonder from the noughties who's done f**k all since' slot. I can go for that!

While the number of monthly Spotify listeners is an interesting metric, it frequently does not correlate with demand to see an act live. https://kworb.net/spotify/listeners.html Maneskin and Foo Fighters have similar numbers. I don't think there's much argument about who should headline and who should be afternoon in Woodsies.
