I have been in a dilemma about whether to go to Glastonbury this year or go to my first European festival (Exit festival in Serbia, week after glasto).

Less inclined to go to Glastonbury this year now. Which i am pleased about because i did not want to be tearing my hair out at trying to make an impossible decision. I will really miss it though.

Can i just say, i seem to be repeating myself on most threads  , but if you base your whole festival on the pyramid headliners then maybe this isnt the festival for you!!

So so so so so much more to do and see

Yep

Despite my musical tastes being prob 99 % indie n dance etc, the other year I left

16 of my mates to go and watch The Levellers at the Jazz World Stage ,

armed with around 6 pints of Brothers Pear Cider.

What a great time I had !

I don't know if you were referring to me there because i said i was less inclined to go now. I don't base glastonbury on who the healiners are, i have been many times and have still not seen all there is to offer. I was just looking for little things to help me feel good in my mind about not going this year and trying something else.

I love the place so much it is really hurting to think i have to make a conscious decision not to go.

I am guessing that those of you who are getting all excited about the Who have not seen them before. Unless they have improved drastically over the last couple of decades then you are in for a big disappointment. After watching them headline Wembley Satdium many years ago I went and sold all the albums of theirs that I owned. They were dire! This could rate as the worst headliner since Rod Stewart

there,s a lot of negatives on this thread and also some truths as far as i,m concerned

yep apart from the who the headliners on what is percived to be the "main" stage do seem pretty weak but what some people are losing the sight of is that you don,t go to glasto for the music as such if you do then do us a favour don,t bother and let some other true fans get the tickets and go yourselfs to the other weekend long gigs that happen to portray them selves as festivals

ok so i woudn,t go and see the who or the chems in concert normally but at glasto you go and se bands you woudn,t even think of normally

ok so me and mrs binky will no doubt (tics providing)have a exchange of views over wether we see the chems or the who and shall leave that down to the night

Well, neither of the headliners are particular favourites of mine and on one can say that any are among the supposed ‘marquee’ names (i.e. Radiohead, U2, REM etc), but I’ll be looking forward to it nonetheless.

I think the Arctic Monkeys and The Who are good choices (one young up-and-coming band with a new, possibly, killer album coming out, and another classic British act that have never played before a la Bowie/Macca), but The Killers are pretty underwhelming (despite Hot Fuss being great). As others have said Glasto is more about the whole rather than the headliners – and I’m sure they’ll be some top stuff bubbling under.

Lets hope for Bloc Party, TV on the Radio, PJ Harvey and others…

Surely i cant be alone in thinking the current headliners look okay, alone Kasabian or the Monkeys might seem a a bit weak, but as a double header it looks pretty good to me.

The Chemical Brothers to close the festival will be awesome too.

So thats 2 out of the 3 nights sorted for me already, hopefully i'll spend the friday watching Spearhead at the Jazz world stage

As for the Who i saw them at brighton last year and they were a bit rubbish, it could be different at glasto with a (much) more up for it crowd, but they did play quite a few new songs and needless to say they were all crap, hopefully glasto will get a greatest hits set.

The Killers will be shit though

I must say if these rumours are in true I'd be very suprised, they are all good bands and popular acts amongst their respected Genre's but I think its quite an underwhelming weak lineup to say the least.

Ive seen the Killers twice in Manchester Academy, tiny venue, and they were so so underwhelming, secondly at Leeds Fest in 05, i don't mean to be harsh, i like both their albums but seeing them live is about as good as someone just playing there cd through the speakers in a big field. It wont be a groundshaking mega historic gig with them.

Arctic monkeys are a top band but again they should be playin around 4 in the afternoon, not closing the stage,

these days it seems to be if a band has been around for 2 albums they can get a headline spot

British acts like the monkeys, razorlight, franz, kaisers etc are all good but theyre playing in slots that should be reserved for the likes of Oasis, Radiohead, Manics, U2, people that have years of albums they can sift through and play songs that no1 will expect, and put on a show

with the names mentioned above we know exactly what their gonna play, and most of us have seen them on their tours already or the year before at another festival.

Im not complaining this is just my opinion i will still try for tickets, as for the who, i think theyre awful, i think they have one good song and Oasis do it better, but people like them, they have a history and are a unique act.

Is it really that weak?

Killers - Monkeys - Who

Stripes - Coldplay - Basement Jaxx

Oasis - Macca - Muse

REM - Radiohead - Moby

Coldplay - Stereophonics - Rod Stewart

Doesn't look significantly better or worse as a whole than recent yers.

I think we'll have to keep a bit of perspective until the other ''headliners' are confirmed i.e. on the Other Stage, Dance thingy, Jazz World etc. The last few Sundays on the Other stage have been top (from what I remember), Ian Brown ruled last time, Doves one year were ace.

    • Proper special gig tonight. They won't mean much to most people, but The Dogs D'Amour were one of the most significant bands of my youth.   Tyla, yer main man of said band, was playing in Birkenhead tonight. Not many there, but it was going fine. Then he decided he didn't like the smoke and the flashing lights so suggested moving the gig to the beer garden. Off we all went, and it was magical. Like having your favourite musician play in your garden. I absolutely loved it.   Before:     After:
