Taking a 4 and 7 year old

I'm just looking for some advice/experiences of people who've taken similar age children to my own, 7 and 4 1/2. I took my oldest when he'd just turned 3 in 2010 and we just took the phil and teds and that transported him and extra clothes etc round just fine. I stupidly sold that and my kids are too big for prams anyway now. I just wanted to know if people thought that realistically I could expect my (fairly lazy) kids to walk the entire festival or if I should invest in some form of transport for them. We've going in a camper this year for the first time so will probably have longer to walk them back at night. We normally camp. Also, if you have used a pull along truck thing before do you find other people get annoyed with them - like they get under people's feet?

Super excited to be taking my kids this year and I'm starting to play them you tube videos of dolly parton, kasabian etc. They think they're going to a theme park!

Thanks for any replies!

Hi Bridget,

I had my nieces, aged 6 & 9 with us Friday to Sumday last year. During the day they coped well getting around the site.

But late at night (after headliners, not Shangri-La late) we had to carry the youngest back to the tent and the older one was walking back with her eyes half closed. In fact they both slept through the Rolling Stones up on the hill and had to wake them to go back to camp.

We didn't get a cart or anything because it was only a couple of nights they were there, but unless you want to carry the kids back each night I'd think about getting something.

We were looking at the 4 wheeled pull along trucks, or the child seats that you can attach to the back of a bicycle or detach and push like a buggy. Hope this helps.

We took ours to Glasto at a similar age , the year of U2/Coldplay and it was quite muddy and my kids loved it , for headliners we stood up the back and put them in deck chairs with a blanket with a phone/Nintendo , lots of carrying and sunday afternoon it was blazing hot and my kids were exhausted

saw too much of the kids field that yr and missed loads of good acts , would recommend every parent do it once but never again.

My Son is 7 aswell and also lazy!

He uses a bike trailer...We have told him this year it is for night times only...He just loves being pushed around in it like a Prince all day!!

I don't mind pushing it around to be fair because we just load it up with supplies and stay out!

We will also be in C/V East!

This'll be our 5th Glasto with kids. First couple of years with two similar aged kids to yours (2011 / 2012) we used a trolley with blankets and cushions at night but made them walk all day. Worked brilliantly. Mainly stuck to Pyramid, West Holts and Acoustic at night and towards the back so you get more space. You get the occasional fool who doesn't notice the trolley with two kids tucked up asleep in it but mostly you get great rapport with people around you. Plus you have a mobile bar to carry your boxes of wine.

Last year they outgrew the trolley so we took a couple of folding chairs and blankets and when they'd tired of dancing to Chic they just fell asleep feet to feet. As long as you're not in everyone's way, people are cool with you. One tip - inflatable glowing balloons. Great to illuminate your kids when they're asleep in a dark field! You can buy them in Tescos. We'll be there again glowing in the dark in June. Have a good one.

Hi there

Never done Glastonbury with kids but have done Croissant Neuf in 2012 & 13 and are doing Beautiful Days this year with them.

We did have one of the bike trailer things for Croissant Neuf but they've outgrown/got too heavy for that (they're 5 & 7) so we went for one of the 4 wheel trailers like this

And added a couple of seats like this to make it comfier

Only thing I would say is make sure that if you do get one of those trolleys make sure a) it can fit in your car (I ended up with smaller one than planned so it would fit in the boot) and B) make sure that the kids sit with backs on opposite sides or at either end- if they're both on same side it can topple (as happened on our test run!)

    • Proper special gig tonight. They won't mean much to most people, but The Dogs D'Amour were one of the most significant bands of my youth.   Tyla, yer main man of said band, was playing in Birkenhead tonight. Not many there, but it was going fine. Then he decided he didn't like the smoke and the flashing lights so suggested moving the gig to the beer garden. Off we all went, and it was magical. Like having your favourite musician play in your garden. I absolutely loved it.   Before:     After:
