Wicket or Cockmill?

Does anybody have experience of both? Which one is less likely to fill first. I think the other half would rather be in Cockmill Meadow as it's closer to the Kidz and Circus fields and to be honest I would prefer Cockmill or Big Ground myself. My only reservation is that the usual place we stay on the Tuesday night is on the other side of the site and the road we usually come in on brings us in to the West car parks. What would be the difference in walking through Gate A as opposed to Gate B and still heading for Cockmill bearing in mind there are a few of us and will have 3 tents? are we likely to get in or would we be better through Gate B and if so which road is best for the east(Purple) car parks?

its a long walk from gate a and I would imagine by the time you get to cockmills the best spots, if not all will be gone.

Its not far from gate b at all. Its worth getting the fittest person to run as fast as they can with the tents when you get in! Thats what i did last year and was pitched up before 0900

Cockmill Meadow is, in my experience, the best camping field on site. It does however fill up mega fast on the wednesday. My recomendation if coming in through gate A would be to ask one of the campsite stewards whether there's any space in Cockmill before you go traipsing over there. If there isn't any space left don't worry too much, I've heard very good things about Wicket. I haven't actually camped there myself though.

They usually have an "occupancy board" at/near each gate. You can check the availability of each area before you commence your trek, hopefully. If not (actually, if so, too), I'd bet Cockmills will be full a long time before Wicket ground.

First two years (05 and 07), I stayed in (then non-family) wicket ground, despite arriving fairly late in those days. Since 2010 I've been considering bringing kids, so have taken an active interest in checking those occupancy boards. We'll be arriving on the Thursday morning about 1000 this year, with kids, and have no intention of going to cockmills. I'm 100% convinced it will be fun by then and we're already planning wicket ground.

Whilst not quite fitting your demographic of having camped in both, I'm an interested party, that's for sure.

The other side of the coin as you'll be looking to get in on Wednesday morning (it seems from your post) is that it will mostly be available. As such, depending on where you're coming from, might it not be possible to get round to the east car parks? What direction are you arriving from? One year (2008?) there was a decent crash on the A roads approaching Glasto from the North/West. We followed the dot-matrix signs on the M5 and ended up being directed round the south and ultimately up the east side of the car parks. It was such a breeze that we did it the next two years, only giving it up when they changed Dragon field (I think, I'm not great with names) to crew camping.

So to summarise, Cockmill meadow fills up significantly earlier than wicket. Driving "the long way" round the site is so free of traffic that it adds less than half an hour to your journey time (assuming you're arriving via the M5 from somewhere north of Bristol).
