Survey help needed.

I am in the process of working on my proposal for my dissertation. At the moment I will need to be doing a survey but I want it to be shit hot. The free versions of online surveys like Survey Monkey are just crap and from what I have seen I cant see their Pro package meeting my needs (having images in, piping, compatibility with SPSS etc). I have found one that seems to do it for me called SurveyGold. I get a 30 trial and then the cost is 70 quid and they will host the survey for me. I am looking at a free open source one called LimeSurvey but I have to host the survey myself. How difficult would that be? Does anyone know of a good cheap or free package?
