The Clean-Up

Just took a bimble around the site and good god.. what a mess... would love to have seen it this time last week!!.. anyway the main arena area is spotless but muddy and the tracks are now being removed... Met a few nice people and chatted casually.... my fave person today was "Jasper" the metal detector enthusiast.

Whilst I was there I got talking to the staff, and no less than 1000 tents were slashed and binned as they never had anyone available to help recycle them... So after a brief conversation with Collette the cleanup manager/co-ordinator we have started the ball rolling for a red cross style recycle point and sticker system for the abandoned tents for next year.. I have already sourced five volunteers and a large HGV to remove abandoned tents next year so they can be cleaned and given to charity's or services who provide aid for natural disasters etc.

I was wondering what state the site would be in so thanks for that mate. Did Jasper find anything worthwhile??

Good work on getting the ball rolling for recycling of tents :)

I wonder what they do with all that ale....

I always thought contamination of the tents would be a problem? Such as bugs, dirt, drugs, etc residue left over in the tents? Really good idea I agree, but would take a lot of volunteers considering each tent has to be taken down and rolled up with everything in tact, then be decontaminated and rolled up again.

Not a problem mate when you work in a factory with facilities to accomodate things such as cleaning/disinfecting drying, plus the company I work for would supply a very lot of manpower as it looks good on their resume' of charitable work...

One can accomplish a lot on one's weeks holiday.. I have not been off the phone today sorting stuff out ;)

    • So bad honestly. I get that bad weather happens but their communication was non existent. When you're managing crowds of tens of thousands of people, it's just not good enough. I left when Massive Attack was cancelled (the first time) and it genuinely did feel unsafe trying to get out. No one knew what was going on, people still sitting in the ground when there were hoards of people trying to leave, no crowd management at all...   I've been to PS enough times to know sometimes you need to just roll with it but this was way worse than "the bar queue was 30 minutes long".    Today will be better but still feel super disappointed.
