Socks!

Was mooching around Millets the other day in search for comfy ladies socks, which won't make my feet too hot, but feel nice and bouncy when walking. But paying £14 per pair - no chance! I need a fair new pairs - did buy a couple of pairs of kids ones, but even these were £8 a pair!

Anyone know where to get some bargainous socks, which do a grand job, without emptying my purse?!

Don't know what other 'outdoor shops' you may have in your area

There is a Mountain Warehouse in Glasgow, which usually has much better deals than Millets. Obviously if you don't live near any mountains, not much chance of a Mountain Warehouse.

There is also a Go Outdoors (tends to be large out of town retail parks) which is pretty good also.

Field & Trek have a bit of a sale on Smartwool socks. These are easily the best socks I've ever tried and worth every penny. They will also last a long time, I've had some pairs for 7 years, so £12+ isn't that much to spend.

The problem is you get what you pay for and considering the miles you're likely to cover at Glastonbury it's worth looking after your feet.

Very true, and as I have found out to my peril once, cheap socks can cause nasty blisters and sore feet!

Avoid 1000 Mile Socks (it's a brand) some people lurve them, but many find they give them blisters.

Knowing I like hill walking, mother-in-law bought me cheap "hiking" socks for crimbo one year, they were dreadful; don't even stay up. As as been said, you get what you pay for.

As you won't be walking that far, 10 miles isn't much really, and you probably aren't wearing heavy boots, consider travel socks from Rohan or Tilley. These can be washed out before bed and will dry by morning, so one pair could do the whole festy and they are still designed for comfort and protection.

I'd just go for a pack of M&S socks to be honest... nice and soft, comfy and not too hot =)

Slightly off the main topic but the word 'blisters' struck a chord here. My feet are a nightmare - I did the Moonwalk last year (26 mile power-walk to raise funds for fighting breast cancer)and if any of you out there need any advice on how to combat blister pain I can only say this - COMPEED PLASTERS. Once you've tried them you will never look back! Trust me. Even if you don't need them they won't take up much room in your rucksack.....Seriously, Compeed plasters are the way forward.

Not sure if you have them there in the UK but I wear bamboo fibre socks here for work. Here on the Sunshine coast in Oz it gets really hot and these socks are excellent at keeping your feet cool but also comfortable in boots because they are quite thick. Good in cold weather too!

Yep, spot on. another advantage is you could easily get two Glasto days out of them without them ponging too much.

Well I am sporting my Bamboo socks right now! Very comfy I have to say - hope they are as comfy after walking a fair few miles at Glasto! Many thanks Aussie - good recommendation!

Brilliant, thanks for the recommendation, I used the SOCKIT voucher code and ordered 3 packs of 2 pairs, the price was reduced as a multibuy saving and £13.50 for 6 pairs with free delivery is a good price.

I always take 7 pairs of brand new socks with me (usually cotton) and, while I'm paying double what I normally would I am taking this recommendation on face value and going for it.
