I'm surprised if this is legal - VOSA check (which they can only do if they have suspicions about the vehicle) and a dog sniff check (which thy can only do if they have suspicions about other things).

ya cant just drive past the services, i was stopped on the hard shoulder in 2008 a couple of miles before it by an unmarked police car and i was just told they where doing vehicle checks in the area. when we pulled in to the services i was shocked, what an operation they set up, large tents, about 10 sniffed dogs and police everywhere.

as soon as i jumped out i had my hands put into a machine an officer had around his neck to check if i had an traces of drugs on my hands, then came the sniffer dog and one sat down in front of me, i was then carted off to a tent where i was strip searched (luckily i had my smoke well stashed in my camper lol).

i was then lead back to my van where they then sent the dogs in. the dog was all over it but didnt find anything thankfully.

i feel sorry for the guys next to me, they had stripped the camper of all its belongings and placed on a tarp at the back of the van where the dogs where all over it!

BE WARNED! STASH IT VERY WELL AND DONT HANDLE ANYTHING ON THE DAY YA GO DOWN!

Not sure, I think there are provisions in the private security industry act 2001. There is other legislation that covers this, but having an empty head moment, basically you are paying to enter a private venue, and in order for you to be admitted you consent to search if asked. If you don't consent, you don't get in.

the police have carried out searches at michaels wood services for years, its an easy way for them to add to their tally and reach the targets. coming off the m5 at the m4 and heading through bristol has always been the safer option if youre carring anything you shouldnt be.

Last year we got pulled of the motorway by two police vehicles whilst driving at 70mph in the middle lane. They were sitting watching traffic and observing and obviously hand picking festival goers. We then got escorted off at the next junction to a pub where the police had A Very large operation which was geared to picking out people with drugs.

We went through a similar procedure as Red Eye Jedi where they swabbed all the doors handles steering wheel and hands of the 4 people in the car. They used a machine which can trace drugs and it gives them an instant reading.The sniffer dog went around the 4 of us aswell. They then looked over the vehicle and did police checks on me to ensure all my details were correct.

They did my wallet aswell. Can i reiterate that you must enure that your stash in a safe place and that all traces are removed from your person. I would imagine if you do get stopped and they find a trace then a full search will take place.

We were pulled between Gloucester and Stroud on the M5.

Obviously after last years worry we will be going empty handed so as far as the police are concerned its job done. I understand its ilegal to possess most drugs but somehow i feel as if my freedom has been quashed slightly.

My bank isn't yet open 'cos the keyholder is stuck in traffic. According to his colleague (who was outside the closed bank dealing with irate customers) he told her on the phone that the police were pulling over loads of vehicles. He travels from Burnham so that'll be M5 to junction 23 then the A39 through Street to Glastonbury.
